This provision is good
Children are happy and confident in the childminder's setting. They make their own choice about what they want to play with from the varied selection of resources available to them. The childminder is aware of the need to maintain a safe place for children to play. She uses her risk assessment effectively to make changes to the physical environment to help promote children's safety. The childminder is skilful in promoting and extending children's speech and language skills. Younger children are eager to join in with songs and rhymes as they observe and copy the childminder. The childminder is an excellent role model and manages children's behaviour well. She is realistic to the child's age and stage of development. The childminder's calm, consistent approach to supporting positive behaviour means that children quickly learn what is expected.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not give enough consideration with gathering information from parents when children first start to ensure they can settle quickly. The childminder does not work with parents consistently to provide them with guidance and advice on how they can extend their child's learning at home.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this had on children's learning. The inspector evaluated an activity with the childminder. The inspector spoke to and interacted with children during the inspection. She took into account the views of parents. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, including evidence of the suitability of adults living on the premises.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is aware of her role and responsibility to ensure children's safety. She is confident about the action to take if she has any child protection concerns about a child in her care. The childminder reviews her practice on a regular basis to help her to identify areas for improvement. She has a positive attitude towards delivering a quality service for children. The childminder attends regular training, and meets up with other childminders to help her to keep her knowledge and skills up to date. Partnerships with other settings that children attend and local schools are effective. The childminder shares comprehensive information to support a consistency in children's learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder regularly monitors children's progress and accurately assesses their stage of development. She responds well to children's different personalities and adapts her interactions dependent upon their ages and capabilities. The childminder encourages younger children's interest in books as they begin to lift the flaps to investigate the picture underneath. Children sit close to the childminder to read familiar stories, making the noises of the animal pictures they look at together. This helps to promote and extend children's vocabulary. The childminder effectively supports children in developing their coordination as they kick a soft ball and throw different sized balls as they link the activity to the current World Cup. Children develop a good range of skills and ability to help support their future development. They begin to learn about how things work as they explore simple technology, such as pressing buttons to create different sounds.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder uses colourful displays, posters and images to help children to see positive images of people who are similar and different to themselves. Children's artwork is displayed and certificates of their achievements, such as their first steps. This helps to build children's self-esteem and confidence in the setting. Children learn about leading healthy lives. They understand the reasons why they need to wash their hands before eating and after messy play. The childminder provides a broad range of healthy snacks based on children's individual dietary needs. Children play outdoors daily, and enjoy the freedom of movement and the different ways they can test out their physical skills.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning and are developing the skills that they need in readiness for starting school. They are interested in the world around them, and regularly attend local groups. Here, they use local facilities to expand their experiences and promote their confidence around others. Younger children begin to recognise their own face and expressions as they enjoy looking in a mirror.
