This provision is good

 The nursery environment is bright, welcoming and secure, with a wide range of good- quality resources. Staff provide interesting and challenging activities so that children have fun while they learn.  Leadership is strong. The new owner has recently recruited a deputy manager to assist with making continuous improvements to the quality of provision.  Staff keep clear records that track each child's progress. They work closely with other professionals so that they can provide extra support where children need it, especially for those children who have special educational needs (SEN) and/or disabilities.  An effective key-person system is in place and children form secure attachments to staff. The key person shares daily information with parents about children's routines.  Staff are positive role models. They sit with children at lunchtimes and encourage them to use good manners. Children clearly demonstrate their understanding of expected

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Managers and staff do not always provide enough opportunities to share information with parents about what their children are learning and their progress.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 enhance existing information sharing procedures with parents so that they can contribute more effectively to their children's learning.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector had a tour of the setting to check their suitability and the quality of resources.  The inspector observed and assessed the quality of teaching and learning during indoor and outdoor activities.  The inspector spoke to staff, parents and children throughout the day.  The inspector completed a joint observation with a manager.  The inspector held a meeting with managers where she checked policies and procedures, including suitability of staff based on their qualifications and Disclosure and Barring Service checks.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Staff are suitably qualified and managers regularly review staff performance through peer observations and supervision meetings. The manager arranges additional training where gaps in knowledge are identified. For example, staff have recently updated their knowledge of managing children's behaviour. All staff are trained in safeguarding and room leaders are safeguarding leads. Staff understand how to keep children safe and know the procedures to follow if they have concerns about a child. Safeguarding is effective. Managers have implemented robust complaints procedures that include when and how to involve external agencies. They have greatly improved the outdoor provision using pupil premium funding, to develop children's physical skills. Managers identified the need for improvement from their continuous self-evaluation and assessment of children with SEN and/or disabilities. All children benefit from using the new outdoor equipment.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Staff understand the curriculum well and set clear learning objectives to help children develop. During circle time, children learn what day it is, the date, the month and the year. Children make links by choosing appropriate clothing to add to a display, based on the current hot weather, and make their own suggestions about needing sun cream and sunglasses. They learn about cause and effect when they add paint to a mix of cornflour and water, and discover that it changes colour. Children represent their ideas as they work together to make jewellery from collage materials. Babies curiously look for hidden toys and enjoy songs and rhymes. Staff encourage quieter children to 'have a go' and give praise for their efforts. Children listen attentively to stories and enjoy predicting what happens next.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children know their routines and can follow simple instructions. They are confident to speak out and ask questions. Children have good manners, show empathy towards each other and form friendships. Staff speak calmly to children when they display unwanted behaviour and explain why it is not appropriate. They remind children to say sorry when they bump into each other. Children are independent in their self-care. They can select their own food and wash their own face and hands. Pre-school children recognise their own sun cream and enjoy applying it with help from staff.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children settle well, are confident and are learning to make their own choices. They socialise well with each other and with staff. Children are working comfortably within the expected development range for their age. They are developing all the skills that they need for the next stage of their learning.
