Inspection activities
The inspector observed children at play within areas of the home used for childminding. The inspector spoke to children as they took part in their activities, and observed their play and the childminder's interaction with them. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection to discuss her practice. The inspector looked at children's development files, policies and procedures, and the childminder's reflection documentation. The inspector took account of parents' views from available questionnaires.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is confident in her role to keep children safe. She has a good knowledge of the signs and indicators of abuse and is confident in how to make a referral if needed. The childminder ensures her training is up to date and understands the importance of advancing her knowledge. For instance, she has recently undertaken a course on food hygiene, which has helped her to understand and embed healthy practises when preparing and storing food. Partnerships with other early years professionals are strong in supporting children's ongoing progress. For example, the childminder liaises with children's key persons to share their next steps in learning to help promote consistency. Written feedback from parents shows that they are happy with the care provided by the childminder.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans and provides a variety of experiences outside of her home to support children's learning and development. For example, children enjoy developing relationships as they mix and play with other children at toddler groups and childminder gatherings. She encourages children's creativity skills and supports their hand-to-eye coordination well. For instance, children enjoy exploring with dough and use cutters and tools to make model sculptures. The childminder communicates to the children well and supports their speaking skills effortlessly. For example, she asks the children a range of questions to extend their speaking and understanding skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder supports children's emotional development well and offers reassurance to develop their self-esteem. For instance, children new to the setting have settling-in visits to help them to feel confident and safe in her care prior to starting. The childminder provides a clean and safe environment, and helps children to learn and follow good hygiene practices. For example, she talks to younger children about washing their hands before and after eating. The childminder supports children's physical development well. For instance, children enjoy going to the park and the allotment where they are able to play on large play equipment and dig the soil to plant flowers and vegetables.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are developing good skills to help prepare them for future learning, such as school. For example, their independence skills are advanced as they help to cut fruit for their snack and assist with tidying away the toys. Children are developing good mathematical skills. For instance, as they explore with dough, the childminder talks to them about the shapes they make and interweaves numbers skilfully.
