This provision is good
The childminder is passionate about providing high-quality care for children. He works closely with the local authority adviser to identify and drive improvement in the setting. The childminder plans activities to follow the children's interests. For example, boys enjoy making paper aeroplanes and watch how far they fly across the garden. Children make good progress. The childminder monitors children's development regularly and plans activities to support what they need to learn next. Children behave well. The childminder supports children to share successfully with others and take turns with toys. This helps to promote children's personal, social and emotional development well. Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed an evaluation of an activity with the childminder and had discussions at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at a range of documents, such as children's observations and assessments, and a sample of policies and procedures. The inspector discussed self- evaluation with the childminder. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection and took account of their views. The inspector took account of parents' written feedback received for the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder reflects on how to improve his practice and is continually updating his knowledge. For example, he has completed communication training to help promote children's speech and language skills further. He works closely with his co-childminder and has regular discussions with her to ensure they are providing consistency in their practice. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder demonstrates knowledge of child protection issues and has close links with social workers. He understands what action to take if he has concerns about a child's welfare. Parents are complimentary about the childminder, for example, one comments, 'It's the best childcare I could have hoped for. My child has learnt with so much enthusiasm.'
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder offers explanations to children and shows them what to do during activities. For example, children enjoy filling a planter with soil and seeds, and talk about what will happen next. This helps to promote children's understanding of the world effectively. The childminder introduces new words, such as 'sowing' for the seeds, and encourages them to copy the words back. This helps to extend children's vocabulary successfully. The childminder keeps parents well informed about their child's progress. For example, he compiles photographs and observations, and shares this information regularly. He has regular discussions with parents to find out what the children enjoy doing at home. This helps to promote strong continuity in children's care and learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children benefit from an interesting range of activities in the setting and enjoy plenty of visits in the local area. For example, children play at the park and go on long walks in the community. This helps to foster their physical well-being effectively. The childminder supports children to try new foods and talks about the importance of healthy eating. Children learn how to keep themselves safe, for example, they stop, look and listen when crossing the road. Children are supported to wash their hands thoroughly and are consistently encouraged and praised when toileting. This helps to promote children's independence skills and understanding of good hygiene.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children achieve in line with expectations for their age. They develop key skills in readiness for school and in preparation for their future learning. For example, they talk about colours, shapes and numbers in their play. They are keen to learn and be involved in activities, such as watering the plants in the garden. They learn to communicate and develop friendships with others successfully.
