The childminder is knowledgeable about child development. She knows the children she looks after well and has a good understanding of their individual abilities. She makes regular assessments of what they can do and decides what they need to learn next. The childminder has a positive attitude to continuing her own professional development. She accesses appropriate and relevant online training. Implementing new knowledge to promote outcomes for children and improve her service further. Recent training has improved her understanding of how to promote effective partnership working with fathers. The childminder is extremely friendly and outgoing. appropriate strategies to manage minor disagreements and gently reminds children about her expectations. She is a positive role model. Children learn to share, take turns and be kind to one another.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
In her eagerness for children to learn, the childminder sometimes asks questions without giving the children sufficient time to think, process their thoughts and respond. Occasionally, the childminder over directs children's play and does not give children enough opportunities to develop their ideas and follow their own play and learning.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held several discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder accesses training, such as child protection and wider safeguarding issues, to develop her knowledge and understanding. Consequently, she knows the possible signs that may mean a child is at risk of harm and is confident about the action she must take to help protect children. The childminder carries out risk assessments of her home to minimise any possible risks or hazards. The childminder evaluates the quality of the service she offers and prioritises areas for improvement. She has plans to enhance and develop her garden play space. The childminder works closely with another local childminder to discuss and share good practice, which helps to keep her up to date with current legislation and practice.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children enjoy a wide range of activities, which the childminder thoughtfully plans for them. She provides children with a wide range of experiences in the local community. She takes children to a variety of toddler groups and they take the train into the local city. This helps to support children's social and emotional development. The childminder helps children to develop their early reading skills and a keen interest in books. When asked 'what happens next?', the children anticipate and recall the next part of the story. The childminder keeps parents well informed about their children's progress through ongoing discussions and written information. This helps to promote continuity of children's learning and development.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children enjoy plenty of fresh air and physical exercise on the daily walk to school and back, and daily visits to the local park. The childminder creates a stimulating and interesting learning environment. She provides children with a wide range of accessible resources from which to choose. Children demonstrate familiarity with the daily routines. They know when it is time to wash their hands for a snack and get ready for nappy changes. The childminder supports parents to provide good choices for children's lunchboxes. This contributes to children developing healthy lifestyles. Children learn to use tools, such as a knife, safely. They cut bananas to eat for their snack.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in relation to their starting points. They cheerfully join in singing, demonstrating their knowledge of a range of rhymes and actions. Children help the childminder to create a train track, which contributes to their early understanding of shapes and space. They thoroughly enjoy painting using brushes made of natural objects, such as twigs and poppies. They get creative, mixing colours and making patterns, finally using their hands to explore the paint. Children can readily see numbers in the environment, and they recognise and name the numbers they see and with which they play. Children gain the skills that prepare them well for the next stage in their learning and for school when the time comes.
