This provision is good
Children demonstrate friendly behaviour and make good relationships with other children. The childminder monitors children's progress effectively. She identifies any gaps in their learning and plans additional support to help children catch up quickly. Children take part in a range of activities based on their interests and needs. For example, young children enjoy carefully fixing together the tracks for a train and show good levels of imagination as they push the train along the tracks. All children make good progress from their starting points. They are confident in their abilities. For example, young children confidently use cutlery during mealtimes and make independent choices in their play.

It is not yet outstanding because:
At times, the childminder does not provide an environment that helps all children to sustain their concentration during activities and benefit from uninterrupted play. During some activities, the childminder misses opportunities to build on children's problem-solving skills, to help them think critically and find answers to why things happen. The childminder has not explored a variety of ways to involve parents in evaluating the setting to help identify further ways to build on the good provision.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the interactions between the childminder and children, and considered the impact this has on their learning. The inspector completed a joint observation of an activity with the childminder and discussed how she supervises her assistant. The inspector discussed with the childminder how she keeps the children in her care safe. The inspector viewed documents, including the childminder's paediatric first-aid certificate and public liability insurance. The inspector viewed the areas of the home used by the children.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Overall, the childminder has developed positive partnerships with parents and other settings that children attend. She keeps them well informed about the progress that children make. They work well together to meet children's care and learning needs effectively. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistant have a good understanding of the signs that may indicate a child may be at risk of harm. They know the procedures to follow if they have concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder supports her assistant well through continuous supervision and monitoring. This helps her to identify training opportunities to help to ensure teaching is continuously of a good standard. The childminder makes good use of networking opportunities and meets with other professionals to discuss professional issues, reflect on her practice and sharpen her teaching skills.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides a good range of resources that is easily accessible to children. Children enjoy their time outdoors and investigate with natural resources, such as sand and water. Young children show good skills in pouring water from one container to another. The childminder successfully supports children's good communication skills. For example, as children play with water she uses words, such as 'splish', 'splosh' and 'splash', to describe what the water is doing. Children have good opportunities to be physically active in the well-resourced garden. Older children show good skills in using apparatus, such as a slide, and toddlers confidently climb on and off toys and spin around on these. The childminder encourages children to be independent in completing activities. For instance, they cut up their own fruit at snack time.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder effectively supports children's understanding of the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. For example, children benefit from regular exercise and develop good balance and coordination, such as when using challenging climbing equipment. The childminder and her assistant spend time playing with children in a positive way. They build strong bonds with the children, who demonstrate that they are happy, settled and secure. The inclusive and nurturing environment supports children's emotional well-being fully. The childminder uses positive strategies to manage children's behaviour. For instance, she sets clear boundaries, such as being kind and polite to others, and supports children well in resolving conflicts.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop the skills that they will need in the future, including pre-school and school. They have a good understanding of the expectations for their behaviour and learn to respect others. Toddlers are inquisitive and enjoy listening to stories and rhymes. During role-play activities, they show high levels of imagination as they represent their own ideas and thoughts.
