This provision is good

 The childminder works well with her co-childminder to provide children with a warm, safe and welcoming environment. Children show that they are happy and settled.  Children show a positive approach to their learning. They enjoy taking part in the interesting activities that the childminder plans. They make good progress from their starting points.  The childminder is very encouraging and supportive. She offers lots of praise to children as they develop new skills. Children show good levels of well-being and confidence.  The childminder offers clear and consistent guidance to children as they learn to play cooperatively and to consider the needs of each other. Children learn to behave appropriately and to manage their emotions well.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not make thorough use of opportunities to reflect on her own practice and identify areas for further improvement, to help her raise the quality of her teaching to an even higher level.  Although the childminder builds warm partnerships with parents, she does not consistently share updates on children's progress to enable parents to support their children's learning further at home.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 evaluate practice and teaching to focus improvements more precisely on building further on children's already good progress  share more information about children's developing skills with parents, to enable them to support their children's learning at home further.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the childminder and children in the childminder's home and accompanied them on a walk in the local community.  The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector took account of the views of parents and children.  The inspector spoke with the childminder about her understanding of safeguarding and first aid.  The inspector looked at some documentation, including the childminder's policies and children's records.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder completes regular training to keep her safeguarding knowledge up to date. She knows how to share any concerns about a child's welfare. She supervises children closely in her care to help keep them safe. She monitors children's progress, to identify any gaps in learning. She understands the value of working well with other professionals involved in children's care, to continue to meet the needs of each child. She has a positive attitude towards continuing to develop her own skills. For example, she has recently undertaken further training to enhance her understanding of how children learn.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder uses her accurate knowledge of each child's progress to plan and deliver activities and experiences that will capture their interest. She then uses her good teaching skills to help them make progress. For example, children enjoy playing with a tray of coloured rice and the childminder introduces counting and sorting, which helps to build on their mathematical skills. She encourages children to test out their own ideas, such as by finding out the different speeds at which balls will travel down a ball run. She shows an interest in children's lives and children extend their speaking skills as they recall what happened on a recent outing.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder meets children's emotional needs well. For example, children and their parents visit the childminder and she uses these visits to find out about children's routines from home. Children settle quickly and build warm attachments with the childminder. They show that they enjoy her company very much. The childminder meets children's care needs well too. She provides a positive and encouraging environment where children are confident to practise skills to meet their own personal needs. They enjoy taking part in daily activities to promote their physical health, such as trips to local parks to use the large equipment.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children develop a good range of skills in preparation for their future learning and starting nursery or school. They develop a positive view towards learning and develop the confidence to ask others for help or support. They learn about the similarities and differences between themselves and others, and develop a positive view of diversity. They develop their speaking, listening and early literacy skills well. They learn to play creatively and imaginatively, for example, when they pretend to make and sell ice creams using a climbing frame as their shop.
