This provision is good
The childminder uses assessments well to monitor children's progress and to identify any gaps in learning. Children make strong progress in their learning. Children are settled and confident in the childminder's care. For instance, they are aware of routines and are eager to help, such as helping to tidy up activities before going inside to have a healthy snack. The childminder has a good understanding of the signs and symptoms that may highlight a concern in relation to child protection. She is aware of the action to take and whom to contact to keep children safe. The childminder plans activities based on children's next steps and interests. For instance, she plans activities based on matching and naming the colours of cars, to help develop children's fascination with media and materials. The childminder has positive relationships with parents. For example, she provides them with information about the activities in which their children take part, to help
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently provide children with additional resources to increase their knowledge of the world around them. The childminder misses opportunities to support older children further, to pursue their interest in mark making to help develop their writing skills.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector had a tour of all areas of the home used by the children. The inspector and childminder observed children and discussed the learning that took place. The inspector observed the daily routine and practice, and discussed the organisation and management of the childminding service with the childminder. The inspector read letters of reference from parents to take account of their views. The inspector sampled a range of documents, including safeguarding policies and procedures, risk assessments and children's learning and development information.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder closely watches and monitors children to help keep them safe. She carries out thorough risk assessments and helps children to learn how to keep themselves safe. For instance, children hold on to the handrail when using the stairs. The childminder reflects on the service she provides and undertakes a range of professional development to keep her practice up to date. For example, she has recently completed training to help her understand how to better support children's learning. She has good links with other early years professionals, such as meeting regularly with staff at other settings the children attend, to provide continuity of care and learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder helps children to develop strong communication and language skills. For example, she makes use of repetition and encourages children to use rhyming words to support their speech. She incorporates mathematical language and urges children to take on new challenges. For example, she encouraged children to compare sizes as well as adding one more item as she counted with the children. The childminder offers children a wide range of experiences to be creative. For instance, children have opportunities to explore changes in colour using paints and vegetable printing.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder offers children opportunities to develop their social skills. For example, they attend play sessions where they are able to interact with other children and adults. Children enjoy daily opportunities to exercise, such as going to the park to practise their physical skills. The childminder helps children to lead a healthy lifestyle. For example, children cut up their fruit at snack time to help develop their independence. Children's behaviour is good. They learn how to share during play, for instance, they offered the childminder a toy car so that she could join in the activity.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children learn to respect their own and other people's differences, and display a strong sense of belonging. They enjoy practising new skills, such as making pictures using peg boards and elastic bands. Children make good progress and gain the skills they need for the next stage in their learning and the move on to nursery or school. They follow good hygiene routines and attend to their own personal care needs, relevant to their age and ability. Children enjoy looking at books independently as well as listening to stories read by the childminder as they develop an interest in the written word.
