This provision is good
The childminder evaluates the quality of her service well. She seeks the views of parents to help identify areas for further development. This supports her drive to make continuous improvements. The childminder provides an attractive learning environment. This motivates children to engage in activities and develop confidence as the childminder teaches them new skills. The childminder gives effective support to her assistant. She encourages her to complete training and shares information about her policies. This helps her assistant to develop her personal effectiveness further. The childminder works well with parents. She regularly shares information about children's learning. She supports parents to engage in their children's learning at home. This contributes to the good progress that all children make, given their starting points. The childminder has good systems in place to help ensure children's welfare. For

example, she completes regular risk assessments and helps children to understand what to do in emergencies.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Although children have good opportunities to create and draw, the childminder does not provide a wide range of opportunities for children to use their imaginations, such as in role play. The childminder does not consistently support children to recognise the similarities and differences between themselves and others.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed interactions between the childminder and children. She observed the quality of teaching inside and outdoors and the impact of this on children's learning. The inspector reviewed documents, including evidence of the suitability of household members and the childminder's assistant, evidence of professional development and children's records. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times and sought the views of parents. The inspector observed an activity that took place with the children and discussed this with the childminder. The inspector viewed the areas of the childminder's home used by children.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is able to recognise the potential risks posed to children and knows what to do if she has concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder uses her links with other practitioners effectively to monitor and develop her service. She completes training to keep up to date and improve her teaching practice. For example, she has increased her knowledge of how to complete reviews for two-year-old children in partnership with other professionals. This helps her to monitor children's learning effectively and close any gaps quickly. The childminder gives effective support to her assistant and shares information to ensure she is clear about her role.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder gives high levels of encouragement to children to help them engage in activities. For example, she takes less-confident children by the hand as they arrive and shows them what resources they can choose. The childminder plans activities based on children's individual needs and interests and extends their learning well. For example, she introduced counting and sorting as children played with the sand. The childminder works well in partnership with parents. She shares strategies that she has successfully used in her setting. She regularly shares her accurate assessments of children's progress. This helps to ensure consistency between the childminder's setting and home.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder implements consistent approaches to support children's understanding of how they should behave, for instance, during mealtimes. This helps children to behave well and develop good social skills. The childminder builds good relationships with children and knows them well. She meets the personal care needs of children well, for instance, as she recognises non-verbal cues to use the toilet. The childminder supports children effectively as they move on to school. For example, she speaks with school staff about the need to reassure children as they become use to busier environments, such as the school playground. This supports children's emotional well-being successfully.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children demonstrate their problem-solving skills as they work out how to position different-sized cones in order to make balls drop from top to bottom. They learn about technology and its uses, for example, as they operate remote-controlled cars with increasing control. Younger children begin to recognise their physical needs as they indicate their need to use the toilet. Children learn a broad range of skills which prepares them well for their next stage in learning and for their move to school.
