This provision is good
The childminder is proactive and evaluates her practice regularly. She consistently seeks ways to improve her setting and the learning experiences she offers. She shows a genuine desire to help children learn and make good progress. The childminder provides high-quality resources that link to children's current interests and abilities. They are encouraged to make their own choices and are confident to select what they do and where they wish to play. Children maintain good levels of concentration. They follow rules well and enjoy playing turn-taking games with the childminder, such as matching pairs of pictures. The childminder helps children become independent by encouraging them to do things for themselves, such as dressing and re-filling their own water cup.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Although partnerships with parents are effective, the childminder does not fully discuss with parents their child's development to gain a clearer picture of the child's learning at the start. The childminder does not fully maximise all opportunities to further children's awareness and understanding of mathematics.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector held discussions with the childminder about her self-evaluation, safeguarding procedures, daily teaching and care practices. The inspector looked at the areas, toys and equipment used for childminding purposes. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder and also observed the quality of care, teaching and children's learning. The inspector took account of parents' written feedback, including those in development records and questionnaires. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including children's learning records, training certificates, policies and attendance records.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands her duty to protect children from harm. She has appropriate child protection policies in place and is fully aware of her responsibilities. The childminder is keen to improve her current knowledge. For example, she reads online information and she shares good practice ideas with local providers. The childminder effectively tracks and monitors children's progress. She carries out regular observations and assessments to identify any gaps in children's learning. The childminder builds strong relationships with other settings that children attend, and shares ideas, which help provide consistency to children's care and learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder actively joins in with children's play. For example, she sits on the floor with them and maintains good eye contact. The childminder extends children's vocabulary during play well. For instance, she talks to children during activities and repeats new words, such as 'merman'. The childminder understands the importance of involving parents in their children's learning. For example, she provides them with activity ideas that will help their child prepare for school. The childminder plans a wide range of enjoyable and challenging activities that she knows children will enjoy. She takes children to meet and socialise with others at groups in the local community as well as arranging visits to the park.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are very secure and behave well in the childminder's home. They move freely from room to room and understand the daily routine. The childminder raises children's confidence and self-esteem effectively. For example, children smile with delight as they enthusiastically 'high five' with the childminder after successfully catching a ball a number of times. The childminder supports children to develop their physical skills both indoors and outside. For example, they manipulate toy vehicles forwards and backwards, and then skilfully dribble a football through a line of cones in the garden. Children are helped to respect and understand about the wider world. They participate in activities that teach them about other customs, such as Chinese New Year.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress based on their starting points and comfortably work at the expected level for their age. They are well prepared for joining school. Children are able to recognise numbers and letters and they practise their early writing skills using pens and chalk. Children explore their imagination and spend time playing with small dolls and the hospital play set, which teaches them about caring for others. They extend their coordination skills as they successfully use a variety of fasteners, such buttons and zips.
