The childminder provides a stimulating, warm and welcoming learning environment within her home. Children are happy, settled and independent in the childminder's care. The childminder creates purposeful age-appropriate activities based on the children's interests and uses effective observations and assessments to help children make good progress in their learning. The childminder creates opportunities for children to explore the local community. She participates in many activities with the children, such as regularly attending playgroup sessions and song time at the library. Inspection activities
The inspector viewed all areas of the childminder's home used by children. The inspector observed the quality of teaching and the impact this has on children during activities, indoors and outdoors. The inspector viewed relevant documents relating to safeguarding and paediatric first aid. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector took into account written views and comments from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder is extremely ambitious and passionate about her role. She is continually prepared to improve her knowledge to develop her practice and her provision. She has recently completed an extensive amount of professional development, such as training on the early years foundation stage and supporting children who have special educational needs and/or disabilities. She actively seeks feedback from parents and other professionals to identify improvements to her practice. For example, the outdoor area is now well resourced to allow children more variety within their learning environment. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of any signs or symptoms of abuse that may indicate that a child is at risk of harm. She is confident in her knowledge of the procedures to follow if she has any safeguarding concerns.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder offers a language rich environment, providing extensive opportunities for children to learn and develop. For example, the childminder frequently sings nursery rhymes to young children during their play. Activities are well prepared and offer children high-quality learning experiences. For example, young children explore a large floor painting activity with a range of interesting household items, such as a dish brush or fly- swatter. The childminder ensures that mathematical language is woven into every activity. For example, she introduces colour and number language into children's free play and song time.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is responsive to young children and strong attachments are clear. Children are learning boundaries through positive reinforcement and verbal praise is always offered to celebrate children's achievements. The childminder supports children in pursuing their own challenges and guides them when needed. For example, young children climb down steps with encouragement. The childminder can redirect challenging behaviour well, in a calming manner by using distraction techniques that are sensitive to children's individual developmental stages.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are making good progress compared with their starting points. They independently explore their learning environments, indoors and outdoors and make their own decisions about what they wish to play with. The childminder provides opportunities to extend children's abilities and strengthen the key skills required for their next stages in their learning. For example, turn taking and sharing is developed from a young age, encouraging cooperative play.
