This provision is good
Strong relationships support children's emotional well-being and are used effectively to help promote independence. A warm, caring and nurturing environment helps children to develop secure attachments with the childminder. The childminder provides a wide range of resources and experiences which engages and motivates children to learn. Children are making good progress. The childminder works closely and effectively with parents. She provides regular information to parents so that they know about their child's progress and how to support their child's learning at home. The childminder's good-quality interactions help children to maintain attention, use good listening skills and link words to pictures.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not gather all necessary information from parents when children first start. For example, information about children's achievements from other early years settings they also attend. Occasionally, the childminder does not give children the time they need to think and respond to her questions and prompts.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further

develop further, the information from parents when children first start, in order to more accurately tailor teaching from the very beginning enhance teaching skills and give children the time they need to respond to questions and prompts that support their developing thinking skills.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector took account of the views of parents through reading the written feedback provided. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at a selection of relevant documentation. The inspector spoke with children during the inspection. The inspector and the childminder jointly observed and evaluated the effectiveness of an activity together.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is aware of the signs which would cause her concern about a child's welfare. She knows how to refer any concerns to the relevant authorities. The childminder keeps her childcare knowledge up to date, for instance, through reading relevant childcare publications. She reflects on her own practice and gathers the views of parents and children as part of the process to help her make continual improvements to her setting. The childminder gives high regard to children's welfare and safety. For example, she teaches young children the importance of sitting on chairs correctly and how to go up and down steps safely. Parents praise the childminder and are very happy with the service she provides.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder regularly observes children at play. This enables her to effectively identify and address any concerns or gaps in their learning and development. She plans activities which she knows children will enjoy and will help them to progress in their learning. The childminder engages in role play with children, providing a narrative and using new vocabulary. For example, she explains and demonstrates to children how a vet uses a stethoscope to hear an animal's heartbeat. She repeats the word 'stethoscope' clearly so that children hear the correct pronunciation.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder sensitively reassures children. She offers warm, genuine cuddles. For example, children snuggle with the childminder when they are feeling tired. The childminder meets children's individual care needs well. For example, she knows children's sleep routines and ensures they have their special comforter to settle them down at nap times. Children behave well. The childminder proactively encourages children to cooperate, take turns and develop good friendships. She ensures children develop a good understanding of healthy lifestyles. For example, she provides daily opportunities for exercise in the fresh air and provides healthy snacks and meals.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress and enjoy activities across all areas of learning. Children are confident and independent learners. They develop early literacy and communication skills as they look at books and read stories together. Children learn about the natural world through practical experiences. For example, as they help the childminder collect newly laid eggs from the chicken coop. The childminder prepares children well for their next stage in learning, including their eventual move to school when the time comes.
