This provision is inadequate
The childminder's understanding of how to protect and keep children safe is poor, putting children's welfare at risk. The childminder does not ensure that her assistant is clear about his responsibility to safeguard children. The childminder and her assistant do not implement their safeguarding policy effectively. This is because they do not follow procedures for reporting and sharing any concerns about children's safety and welfare with the local Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub. This significantly compromises children's safety and welfare.
p.1
It has the following strengths
The childminder has addressed the weakness in assessment from the previous inspection. As a result, teaching and learning have improved and children make good progress. The childminder demonstrates a strong commitment to working in partnership with parents. She uses successful strategies to communicate with parents to involve them in the opportunities she provides.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector checked a range of documentation, including safeguarding procedures and evidence of the childminder and her assistant's suitability. The inspector spoke with the childminder, her assistant and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector completed a joint observation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector took into account the views of parents spoken to on the day.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is inadequate
Safeguarding is ineffective. The childminder and her assistant do not recognise and respond appropriately to possible signs of neglect or abuse. The childminder's assistant does not share safeguarding concerns with the childminder. This affects how rigorously the childminder can monitor children's welfare and take action to reduce the risk of harm. Furthermore, this relates to an incident when the childminder has not informed relevant agencies of child protection concerns in a timely manner. These weaknesses place children at significant risk. The childminder has carried out evaluation of the provision. She has considered the views of children, parents and other professionals to reflect on the service she offers. This has helped her to address most of the issues raised at the last inspection to raise the quality of teaching. The childminder is well qualified and understands how children learn through play. She has attended further training to update her teaching

knowledge and skills. The childminder supervises her assistant. However, the supervision and coaching provided is not effective in ensuring her assistant has the necessary knowledge and skills to fulfil his role, particularly regarding child protection.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows children well. She uses her observation and assessment system effectively to understand and monitor children's level of achievement. This helps her to provide activities based on what children need to learn next. Overall, the childminder and her assistant interact well with children. They join them as they play to enhance their learning. The childminder provides activities to help children learn about different textures. For example, children enjoy exploring different materials, such as sand and pasta. The childminder counts and encourages children to join in to extend their mathematical skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are inadequate
The significant weaknesses in leadership and management compromise children's safety and welfare. Nevertheless, children form suitable bonds with the childminder and her assistant. The childminder offers gradual settling-in sessions when children join. Children are happy and settled. Older children learn to follow simple rules and children behave well. The childminder has made vast improvements to the outdoor area to make it safe. Children thoroughly enjoy spending time playing outside. She promotes children's healthy lifestyles appropriately. For example, they benefit from healthy and nutritious meals.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are keen to play and learn. They make good progress from their individual starting points. Children's early mathematical skills are emerging, and they learn to count and use number language as they play. Younger children develop good physical skills. They climb and run with increasing confidence. Children are well prepared for the next stage of their education, including the move on to school.
