The childminder has high expectations for the children. The quality of teaching is strong. She builds on children's early literacy skills to help prepare them for their future learning. For example, she plays games that help children to find and sound out initial letters in their names. The childminder sings rhymes with the children, asks questions and provides commentary to support their communication and language development. The children chat, laugh and enjoy each other's company. The childminder stores toys and equipment at child height, which enables children to make choices and develop independence.

The children are confident to make choices and decisions, such as playing inside or out, choosing toys and if they would like a drink. Young children concentrate well, count as they play and name some colours. They build good social skills and extend their vocabulary, which supports their confidence in communicating.
