This provision is good
Children are very happy and confident. They form secure attachments with the childminder and their good behaviour shows they feel safe. They respond to simple boundaries and listen carefully to instructions that help them learn to manage risks. Children make particularly good progress with their communication and language skills. The childminder provides consistent support to reinforce and extend their vocabulary and discusses children's speech development with parents. The childminder works closely with other settings children attend and discusses how to meet the needs of individual children. She finds out how teachers at the local nursery school introduce children to phonics and builds on this. Overall, the childminder knows individual children well. She uses children's interests to plan learning opportunities that capture their imaginations. The childminder is responsive to children as they play and uses different strategies to

extend their learning. She listens to children talking, repeats their key phrases and explains what they need to do next.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The assessments of children's development are not sharply focused enough to support precise planning for children's rapid progress. Professional development is not precisely targeted on improving the quality of teaching to the very highest level.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed different activities and assessed the impact these have on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children during the inspection. She took account of the views of parents through written letters and cards. The inspector viewed the areas of the house and garden that the childminder uses for childminding. The inspector looked at a range of documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the home. She also discussed the childminder's safeguarding procedure.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has evaluated and improved how she supports children's mathematical development since the last inspection. For example, she now ensures that books with numbers are always available and promotes children's counting during everyday routines. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has used training to update her knowledge and procedures, and to ensure she can quickly recognise and respond to concerns about children's welfare. The childminder has established strong partnerships with the nursery teachers at the local school. She shares information about children's development before they start and has ongoing discussions about children's learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is experienced and, in the main, identifies what children need to learn next. She understands how each child learns in different ways and observes the learning that happens throughout the day. Children reveal what they know as they play out real- life experiences with baby dolls and tell the childminder the toy candle will be hot. The childminder creates opportunities for children to return to their favourite books and weaves in further learning experiences that build on these stories. They learn to care for plants, act out stories and talk about each character's feelings. The childminder listens carefully to children as they talk about what they are doing and repeats their key words and ideas. For example, they talk about having lots of marbles and the childminder explains what will happen to the tower if they remove the bricks at the bottom.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Older children confidently talk to visitors and demonstrate they have the social skills they will need to be ready for school. They help younger children follow the rules of games and offer to help them during lunch. All children benefit from daily routines that help them become independent. They wipe their noses, pour their drinks and the childminder works closely with the parents of younger children who are learning to use the toilet. The childminder provides sensitive encouragement to reassure and praise children as they become more confident. She offers children a variety of food choices during the day and makes sure they start the day with a healthy breakfast. The childminder provides opportunities for children to become familiar with cultures beyond their own community.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their development and any gaps in their learning are closing. Younger children quickly move on from using single words to creating longer sentences in their play. Older children can form some of the letters in their name, count groups of objects accurately and manage their own personal needs. All children learn how to take turns well during games.
