This provision is good
The childminder reflects on her practice well. For example, she has recently added more natural resources, which can be used in a variety of ways, to her provision. This demonstrates that most priorities for improvement are targeted to improve the quality of children's learning experiences. The childminder knows the children well and she observes them as they play. She uses the information she gathers from observations to assess what children can do and what they need to learn next. This helps children to make consistently good progress. The childminder has a gentle and nurturing approach and establishes strong, trusting relationships with children. They are content and relaxed in her care. Overall, the childminder communicates effectively with parents, using a number of different ways to keep them informed about their children's learning and well-being.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always obtain enough information from parents about what their child already knows and can do when they first start, to help plan challenging learning experiences fully from the outset. The childminder does not focus sharply enough on her professional development, to help raise the quality of her provision to the highest level.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of the possible signs and symptoms of child abuse. She is confident about what action to take should she have a concern about a child in her care. The childminder carries out daily risk assessments to ensure the premises are safe and suitable for children. Parents' written comments are highly positive about the childminder. They describe her as having 'a calm, caring nature' and are very happy with the service she provides. The childminder has good relationships with the providers of other early years settings that children attend. This supports consistency and continuity in children's learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is qualified and understands how to promote children's learning through play. She is responsive to children's interests and ideas, and interacts well. The childminder demonstrates how to roll and manipulate the dough effectively, helping to support children's early physical skills. Children's learning is extended further and they are encouraged to understand concepts, such as colour and counting. The childminder promotes children's communication and language skills successfully. For example, she models good use of language, narrates what children are doing, extends their vocabulary and repeats their words back with clear pronunciation. Parents contribute information about children's ongoing achievements and interests from home.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a welcoming environment with a range of resources that children can access independently. This helps them to make choices about their learning. The childminder is effective in her approach to promoting good health. Children have many opportunities for fresh air and exercise, and the childminder provides a suitable range of nutritious meals and snacks. Children's behaviour is good. The childminder consistently praises good behaviour and treats children with kindness and respect. This helps to increase children's emotional well-being and self-esteem.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children show good levels of imagination. For example, they put baby dolls into bed, gently tapping their back as they pull the cover over their bodies. Children regularly attend facilities, such as local playgroups. This helps develop their confidence in making relationships with other children. Children take part in a range of festivals throughout the year. This helps them to recognise and value differences in themselves and others. Children demonstrate good coordination skills as they build tracks for their trains. The skills they are acquiring prepare them well for their next stage in learning, including their eventual move on to nursery or school.
