This provision is good
The childminder develops good partnerships with parents and other professionals and values their comments and involvement. They work closely together to plan key events, such as children's toilet-training and their transition into school. The childminder knows the children well. Overall, she uses her knowledge of children's current interests effectively, to plan and provide interesting experiences that help them to make good progress in their development. The nurturing childminder supports children's emotional well-being very well. Children show their strong attachments with the childminder. For example, they climb onto her knee when they are tired and peacefully fall asleep, demonstrating their contentment. The childminder provides an inviting learning environment with a good range of toys and resources, presented at children's height. This helps to give children freedom to make independent choices about their play.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Although the childminder continually reflects on her practice, her self-evaluation is not as effective as possible in leading to sustained improvement in the outcomes for children. The childminder maintains a safe environment for children and supervises them well. However, she does not provide many opportunities for children to learn about how to consider risks.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge of the procedure to follow should she have a safeguarding concern about a child. She knows whom to contact if she has any concerns regarding a child's welfare. The childminder uses her policies and procedures well to further support safe practice. For example, risk assessments are completed on a regular basis, with appropriate steps taken to minimise risks. She seeks the views of parents and children in reviewing her provision. Parents say that they are very happy with the care children receive.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder supports children's communication and language skills particularly well. For example, she listens carefully to them, repeats back what they have said and adds new words to extend their language. The childminder responds to children's emerging interests effectively, to help to support their understanding of mathematics and extend their vocabulary. For example, children are fascinated by the vehicles and machines they see at a building site. The childminder takes them to a safe place to watch them being operated. She provides counting books and toys that reflect what they have seen and encourages them to categorise the toys by shape and size. Children excitedly count how many 'diggers' are in their book and learn new words, such as 'harvester'.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Strong settling-in procedures support children's emotional security from the start. Children show a good understanding of developing healthy lifestyles. They know to wash their hands at appropriate times and eat healthy meals and snacks. Their physical development is well fostered through a broad range of activities and trips out into local parks. Children are supported to become increasingly independent. For example, the childminder gently encourages them to complete simple tasks for themselves, such as putting on their own shoes. Children demonstrate positive behaviour and learn good manners. For example, they learn to wait for their turn and to ask for the things they want politely.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children demonstrate that they are motivated learners. All children are making good progress in their learning. They learn about other cultures and festivals and enjoy exploring the community where they live. Children enjoy playing with other children at playgroups they attend with the childminder. This introduces them to a wider circle of friends and helps to extend their social skills. Children are prepared well for the eventual move to school.
