This provision is good
The childminder provides good opportunities for children to be independent. For example, she encourages them to take off and put on their shoes and coats. At mealtimes, the childminder encourages children to prepare snack and feed themselves. The childminder and her assistant support children's personal, social and emotional development well. They regularly praise children's efforts and celebrate their achievements. Children develop strong bonds with them and demonstrate that they are happy and settled. Children share, take turns and behave well. The childminder observes children's progress regularly, assesses their skills and plans interesting experiences to promote their next steps in learning. All children make good progress from their starting points. The childminder is conscientious and hard-working. She takes her own and her assistant's professional development very seriously and has completed several training

courses since her last inspection. These have helped to influence their good teaching practice, which has promoted children's all-round development.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
On occasion, the childminder misses opportunities to provide a wide range of easily accessible resources to support children's early writing skills. The childminder's drive towards continuous improvement does not fully include the views of the parents.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning and development. The inspector had a tour of the premises and viewed the resources available for the children. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including evidence of suitability and children's records. The inspector spoke to parents, read written feedback and considered their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder and her assistant demonstrate a good knowledge and understanding of how to protect the children in their care. They attend child protection training and are aware of the signs and symptoms of abuse. The childminder implements a wide range of policies and procedures, which she regularly reviews and updates to ensure that they reflect current legislation. The childminder carries out risk assessments of her home to make sure children play in a safe environment. The childminder completes training that positively enhances her practice. For example, she identified a weakness in mathematical development and has attended training to improve her knowledge to better support children's progress in this area.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder teaches children well. She understands how children learn through play. She plans activities that reflect children's interests and learning needs. The childminder assesses children's progress regularly and checks that their development is as expected. Children have good opportunities to learn about the local community and wider world. For instance, they go on a variety of trips to parks and soft-play centres, and visit various groups to help them learn about different people and develop their social skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder creates a warm and welcoming environment where the children feel safe and secure. The childminder promotes children's understanding of healthy lifestyles and why they need to develop these well. For example, she consistently encourages children to follow good hygiene routines, such as washing their hands after outdoors play and before mealtimes. The childminder promotes opportunities for children to learn about their personal safety. For instance, children are encouraged to put on their own sun cream as they learn about sun safety. The childminder recently attended a meeting to learn about how to provide young children with healthy nutritious meals. She shared this information with families to encourage them to provide healthy snacks and meals.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children concentrate well and are very motivated to learn. They are happy and form good friendships with their peers. They demonstrate good levels of engagement and converse confidently with adults. Children concentrate well on activities in which they are interested. For example, younger children engage well when washing the dolls, while older children take care as they learn to balance on the beams. Children develop good physical skills. For example, they dance to music, climb on frames and enjoy blowing bubbles. Children acquire the skills they need for the next stage of their education.
