This provision is good
The childminder provides a welcoming and stimulating environment. Children have many opportunities to initiate play and follow their own interests. Children choose freely from the wide range of toys and resources on offer. They are achieving the milestones expected for their age and stage of development. The childminder places emphasis on helping children develop strong relationships with herself and other children. This particularly helps children who are less confident to explore and express their views and wants. The childminder keeps parents well informed about their children's activities and the care they receive each day. She encourages children to take home favourite activities to continue them at home. This helps parents to extend their children's learning at home. The childminder is accurate in her self-evaluation. She seeks and acts on the views of parents and the local authority adviser to make concerted and well-planned

improvements. For example, the childminder has recently helped children become familiar with the evacuation procedures to follow in the event of an emergency.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder has not focused professional development opportunities to help her develop expert knowledge of the areas of learning and deep understanding of how children learn, to further enhance the quality of teaching. The childminder does not consistently gather fully detailed information from parents, to help her make a comprehensive assessment of what children can already do when they first attend the setting.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

The inspector explored self-evaluation and the effectiveness of the childminder's interactions with children. The inspector spoke with the childminder throughout the inspection. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector took account of the views of parents spoken to during the inspection and from their written comments. The inspector spoke with children during the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder demonstrates a clear understanding of the procedures to follow in the event of child protection concerns. The childminder refreshes her knowledge of safeguarding through regular training and discussions with other childminders. She effectively uses risk assessments to address potential hazards and maintain a safe environment for children. The childminder's accurate assessment of children's development helps her address areas where children need additional support and to plan for their future learning. Parents are very complimentary about the care their children receive. Since her registration the childminder has developed the range of available resources and the outings she provides.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses spontaneous moments in children's play well to develop their understanding the world and mathematics. For example, as children explore tissues, she encourages them to notice the detailed features of them. She explains that the tissues are rectangles and they have four sides. When children look in the windows and notice their image, she explains that this is a reflection. Children have many opportunities to explore using their senses. They enjoy emptying and filling containers with sand and then with oats. The childminder models good use of language. She comments on what children are doing and teaches them to listen well. For instance, the childminder encourages children to listen and identify sounds in their environment.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are happy and settled in the childminder's care. She is responsive to their emotional and physical needs. For instance, she stays close by children when they are wary of strangers. Children enjoy cuddles and regular praise. The childminder ensures they eat healthy foods. She teaches children the importance of good hygiene practices. Children wash their hands before eating. The childminder uses her links with the local community to help children to learn to socialise and to respect each other's differences. During play dates with other childminders children celebrate different cultural festivals. The childminder helps children learn to share and take turns with larger groups of children at playgroups.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children behave well. They ask to take turns and share popular toys. Children are starting to name colours and count. They listen and follow instructions well, such as when learning to walk safely on paths. Children learn the skills that will help prepare them for the next stage of their learning, including school. They persevere with tricky tasks, such as when they solve the problem of how to get glitter out of containers. Children demonstrate positive attitudes to learning.
