This provision is good
Since registration, the childminder has developed a reflective approach to her work. She has made changes to the way she observes and assesses children's progress and she has extended the opportunities that are available to children in the garden. Children enjoy the childminder's enthusiastic and encouraging involvement in their play. They respond to her suggestions for activities, such as singing. They are eager to join in with the actions and try to sing along. Parents are happy with the care their children receive from the childminder. They comment on the good daily communication they receive and about how well the childminder meets their children's individual needs. The childminder is effective in promoting children's safety. She provides close supervision during activities, makes regular checks on children who are asleep and carries out thorough risk assessments, taking steps to reduce hazards to children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally, the childminder does not give children enough time to consider their responses to her questions before moving on with the conversation. Children have few resources they can independently access to promote their curiosity about the natural world.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during a range of activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of the adults living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector spoke to one parent on the day and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has completed refresher training in safeguarding and she knows how to keep children safe and protect their welfare. The childminder is keen to keep her knowledge up to date and she has completed a number of training courses. She recognises the benefits of the extra knowledge, such as an increase in confidence to be able to meet children's individual needs. Children benefit from the childminder's good understanding of how they like to learn. She provides them with interesting and enjoyable activities that challenge them appropriately to continue to make progress in their learning and development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is effective in her teaching. She follows children's interests when planning activities and values information from parents when she is identifying children's starting points. She makes good use of regular assessment to identify areas where children may need extra support and for their next steps in learning. The childminder encourages children to choose the resources for their play. For example, children find a bag with toy ducks inside which prompts them to sing a favourite song. The childminder supports children's interest in numbers as they count the ducks. Babies enjoy exploring toys. They post balls in a hole, watch, and show delight as they appear at the bottom.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children clearly show that they feel safe and have a sense of belonging in the childminder's home. They arrive happily, know where to find the toys and readily snuggle down to sleep at rest time. The childminder enables them to feel emotionally secure because she is successful at meeting their needs. She recognises when children need changing, are hungry and when they need different activities. Children's developing awareness of a healthy lifestyle is supported. They spend lots of time outdoors in the garden and visiting country parks where they ride in the childminder's pull-along wagon which enables even the very youngest children to explore the outdoors. Children behave very well. The childminder has a consistent, calm and gentle approach. She talks to children about being kind to one another and she is effective in distracting children with toys.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their individual starting points. They take part in a good range of activities that follows their interests and widens their experiences. Children are learning key skills that help prepare them for starting school when the time comes. They are independent and they are learning to be kind and show respect to one another.
