This provision is good
The childminder offers a welcoming and nurturing learning environment. Children settle well into daily routines and play happily. Children feel safe and are confident to ask for help when needed. The childminder is sensitive to the needs of each child. Children make good progress from their individual starting points. They are well prepared for the next stage of their learning and development, including starting school. The childminder interacts well with children and supports their language development effectively. Children learn new vocabularies and use them well in their play. Partnerships between the childminder and parents are strong. For example, the childminder keeps parents well informed about their children's progress and involves them in planning the next steps in their children's learning. The childminder attends training to strengthen her skills and meets other childminders to share best practice.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always extend activities to fully challenge children's mathematical skills and the ability to solve problems independently. The childminder does not always offer many experiences to extend and build on children's understanding and skills in using everyday technology.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder interacting with children indoors and outdoors. The inspector sampled the childminder's policies, procedures, risk assessments and the children's development records. The inspector discussed the childminder's procedures to safeguard children, and her process for reflecting on her practice. The inspector took account of the views of parents and children.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of safeguarding practices and knows how to make referrals if she has concerns about a child in her care. She supervises children well and checks all areas of her house to help children remain safe. The childminder attends training to develop her practice. She tracks the progress of each child to identify any gaps and provides good support to help children achieve well. The childminder works well with other early years providers and outside professionals to ensure children receive the appropriate support they need. She takes into account the views of parents, children and others to sustain continuous improvement. Parents are pleased with the good progress, care and support their children receive.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder gains relevant information from parents to establish children's starting points in their learning. Planning is flexible and the childminder takes into account children's individual needs and interests to support their continuous learning and development. The childminder introduces children to new experiences and shows them how to use resources safely. Children are well motivated to learn. For example, they build models purposefully and confidently share their thoughts about what they have made. Children use scissors safely, and create pictures by cutting and sticking to give them an artistic effect. The childminder reads familiar stories with children. Children are confident to talk about their favourite characters and events.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is caring and talks to children in a calm manner. For example, she uses praise well to boost children's confidence and to support their social and emotional well- being to good effect. Children learn to share resources fairly and respond well to instructions. Their behaviour is good. The childminder helps children adopt healthy lifestyles. For example, children learn about the importance of healthy eating and personal hygiene to reduce the spread of infections. The childminder takes children to places of interest to enhance their learning and to help them learn about different people and their communities. Through outings, for example, children practise to cross roads safely.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress and any gaps in learning are closing. Children listen attentively, explore musical instruments and learn new songs. Children know letters and sounds and learn to write their names with some support. Children climb the apparatus and slide safely. They learn to care for the natural world. For example, they use magnifying glasses to explore living things. Children make good comments on past and present events in their lives.
