This provision is good
The childminder adapts her settling-in arrangements to suit the care and ability requirements of each child. Children are happy and settled in her care. The childminder uses her assessment checks well to help ensure all children are working comfortably within the range of development typical for their age. She identifies any areas where children may benefit from targeted support. All children make good progress relative to their starting points. The childminder works closely with parents to ensure children have consistency in their daily routines, such as helping them to manage their personal hygiene needs. She involves parents well in their children's learning. Parents receive regular updates about their children's ongoing achievements and progress. Children are eager to learn and are motivated. The childminder plans interesting activities based around children's individual needs and ever-changing interests. Careful

monitoring helps the childminder to minimise and close any gaps in learning quickly.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder's use of techniques, such as questioning, is not always effective in encouraging children to formulate new ideas and think more broadly. The childminder does not maximise opportunities to reflect regularly on some aspects of her practice to drive ongoing improvement to the highest level.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector evaluated a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector spoke with children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, including evidence of the suitability of all persons living in the household. The inspector discussed with the childminder how she reflects on her practice. The inspector took account of the views of parents through discussions during this inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is very aware of the procedures to follow in the event of having any child protection concerns relating to a child in her care. She is clear about the signs and indicators of possible abuse that may alert her to any worries about a child's well-being. The childminder understands the importance of monitoring patterns of children's attendance. She refreshes her knowledge by regularly updating her safeguarding training. The childminder completes risk assessments and daily checks of her home to minimise risks to children and keep them safe and secure. Parents comment about how happy they are with the care the childminder provides. They appreciate her caring manner and the good progress their children are making with her.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The well-qualified childminder supports young children's sensory exploration and experimentation with different textures and materials. For example, she provides printing with brightly coloured paint, water play and picking ripe strawberries that smell sweet. The childminder supports young children's physical development well. She offers opportunities for them to run, skip and dance inside and outside. Equipment, such as scooters, help children to develop their coordination and ability to negotiate obstacles and stop safely. Children take great delight as they share books. The childminder pays good attention to planning activities that enable children to make links in their learning. For example, she uses their current favourite character on television and organises activities to sustain children's interest and perseverance. Children have great fun comparing different- sized boats and exploring how these float on top of the water.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides good opportunities for children to learn about personal hygiene practices and healthy lifestyles. For example, she reminds children to drink plenty of water and encourages them to pick fresh fruit from her garden for their snack. The childminder knows the children well and recognises when younger children require cuddles for reassurance or if they are tired. The childminder is a good role model. Children are polite and use their manners with little or no prompting. They are well behaved and are beginning to learn about sharing and taking turns, through clear explanations from the childminder.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children have good opportunities to learn about the world around them and develop their communication, social and physical skills. They are confident to express themselves and make choices as they interact with the childminder and each other. The childminder prepares children very well for the next stages in their learning or move to school.
