The childminder is knowledgeable about child protection and what issues may cause her concern. She understands her responsibility to promote children's welfare and knows the procedures to follow to report any concerns. The childminder places a strong focus on keeping children safe in the home and ensures they are supervised well. She carries out a range of checks prior to children arriving to ensure her home is free from potential hazards. The childminder monitors her provision well, overall, and seeks the views of children and parents. The childminder keeps abreast with changes and she regularly gathers information from other childminders. This has resulted in her improving the information requested from parents about children's starting points.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows the children well and some have been in her care from the time she was first registered. She observes children as they play and is able to use the information gained to plan their next steps in learning. Each child has a learning journal and tracker, which are used to assess where they are in their development. This enables the childminder to identify any gaps in learning. The childminder consistently includes mathematics in activities and routines to help children to develop an understanding of concepts, such as numbers and shapes. The childminder supports children's imagination and their enjoyment of stories well. For instance, children join in using props related to the story and they excitedly introduce animals in the story. Children have fun playing in the sand as they create moulds of sea creatures and pretend the animals are hiding in the sand. The childminder effectively shares children's learning with parents and professionals
