learning and supports their emotional well-being well.

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not take all opportunities to support younger children's understanding of numbers and counting, to offer greater mathematical challenges.  The childminder is sometimes too quick to do things for children when they are ready and able to learn to do them for themselves.

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder evaluates and reflects on her practice well. She attends training to keep her practice up to date. This has enhanced the quality of her planning and teaching skills and her child protection knowledge. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of safeguarding procedures and understands her responsibility to report concerns to protect children's safety and well-being. She monitors and reviews children's progress well and shares information effectively with parents. This successfully engages them in the children's good progress and achievements, and contributes to the positive outcomes for their learning.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder tracks children's progress successfully and plans activities to meet their individual needs and achieve the next steps in their learning. For example, resources provided support the children's creative explorations effectively, enabling them to design a Father's Day card. Children practise sticking various materials and experiment using different types of glue, enjoying this sensory experience. The childminder supports children's language development well. They respond to questions, confidently express themselves and eagerly ask her to engage in their play. Children are sociable and enjoy the good one-to-one support provided by the childminder. They become familiar with primary colours, make choices and solve the problem of how to fit shapes in a toy. They confidently press the buttons on a toy and listen to the musical sounds that are played as a result.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children enjoy fresh air and exercise to support their health and well-being. For instance, they go on walks and visit the park or places of interests. Children make healthy fruit snack choices and are encouraged to drink water regularly. The childminder develops children's understanding of potential hazards well and teaches them about good safety procedures. For example, she supervises them well while they cut with scissors and reminds them to be careful with these. The childminder discusses road safety procedures and engages the children in monthly fire evacuation practices. The childminder models good hygiene practices and children wash their hands well. The childminder uses a poster to remind children of what to do.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children develop good skills in preparation for their next stage in learning and in readiness for school. They are happy and show good concentration skills and an enthusiasm for learning. For example, they develop good physical skills manipulating the glue stick or attempting to make sandcastles. Children practise new skills with tools in early preparation for writing. They explore creative resources well and confidently make decisions in their play.
