This provision is good
The childminder has established effective partnerships with other professionals. She works closely with other settings and agencies involved with children to consistently support their individual progress. The childminder has a good understanding of child development and she uses this to support children in their learning. She accurately identifies where they are progressing and where they need the most support. Children regularly display confidence and imagination in their play. They happily take the lead in activities and remain engaged with further input from the childminder. Children are gaining the skills required for their future stages in learning. For example, they recognise their written name and use counting skills during play. Children are independent and can make their own choices. They are prepared well for their move to school.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
On occasion, the childminder misses opportunities to extend children's learning even further. Although the childminder reflects regularly on her practice and identifies areas for improvement, she does not always ensure that these are addressed promptly enough to improve her skills and knowledge more quickly.

The childminder regularly evaluates her environment and seeks to add new resources for children to enjoy. Her setting is warm, welcoming and stimulates children's interest to learn. The childminder supports children's safety very well by completing effective risk assessments and teaches children how to negotiate space and equipment. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is very knowledgeable about the signs and symptoms of abuse, and is secure in her reporting procedure should she have any concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder has links with community children's groups and this helps her to share good ideas with other professionals to increase her already good skills. The childminder works closely with parents and has built good relationships. They are involved in their child's learning from the start and share ideas from home.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children explore their environment with confidence and engage in a range of activities the childminder provides. They enjoy solving problems during play. For example, children spend time investigating how water flows through tubes and taps as they open and close them. They predict where it will spray out and discuss floating and sinking with the childminder. She uses good questioning skills to extend their thinking. The childminder observes children and accurately assesses their progress. She uses this information to plan successful learning opportunities. The childminder confidently identifies any gaps in children's learning and works quickly to close them. The childminder has a very caring and enthusiastic tone with the children, which stimulates their learning and helps them to feel safe and secure.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder praises children for positive behaviour and sets boundaries for them to follow. Children begin to understand rules and have respect for each other. The childminder ensures children spend a lot of time in the large outdoor area and go on regular walks to help support their physical development. Children understand how to keep themselves safe, such as carefully climbing on apparatus and they negotiate their space well when running up and down the garden and riding bicycles. The childminder offers a wide range of healthy home-cooked food that children enjoy and choose. The childminder provides children with lots of opportunities to socialise with people in the community. She discusses similarities and differences they may encounter, supporting children to understand diversity. Children are emotionally settled and independent.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are creative in their play and use their imagination to make up stories, for example, when using cars and play people. They independently select their own resources and invite other children to join in. Children enjoy visits to the farm and local play groups where they make friends. They enjoy having a go at new activities and are motivated to finish tasks they are interested in.
