This provision is good
The childminder provides a warm, welcoming and stimulating environment to support the mixed ages of children in her care. Children are well prepared for the next stage in their learning and, where appropriate, their eventual move to school. The childminder builds positive relationships with teachers from local schools. She uses information gained from them to plan more activities to promote children’s learning even further. The childminder is a good role model. She is consistent with her approach to promote good behaviour. All children share and take turns with resources and toys and they follow simple rules. Positive partnerships with parents support their children’s learning to a good level. Parents comment, ‘We would highly recommend the childminder’ and ‘Our child has flourished’. The childminder promotes diversity well. Children begin to value and respect different people and the community. She provides a range of activities that teaches children

about diversity beyond their immediate experiences.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder has not fully embedded baseline assessments to show the good progress all children make. The childminder has not explored other training opportunities to update her skills and knowledge to an even higher level.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

build on the already good assessment systems to identify precisely children's starting points and to show the good progress children make from when they first start explore other professional development opportunities and raise knowledge and skills to an even higher level.

Inspection activities
The inspector had a tour of the premises used for the purposes of childminding. The inspector talked with children and the childminder at appropriate times. She reviewed an activity with the childminder. The inspector observed the quality of teaching and assessed the impact this has on children's learning and development. The inspector took into account the views and comments of parents. The inspector viewed the suitability checks of the childminder and household members. She discussed the childminder's self-evaluation information and viewed a range of documentation, including the paediatric first-aid certificate and public liability insurance.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder manages and minimises risks in her home, without limiting opportunities for children's development. She helps children learn how to keep themselves safe, including in the event of a fire. The childminder keeps up to date with safeguarding matters and child protection. For example, she understands her role to recognise and tackle instances of discrimination, extreme views and beliefs. She knows what to do if she is concerned about a child's welfare and the local reporting procedures. The childminder keeps parents well informed about their child's care and development. For example, she shares with them the required progress check for children aged between two and three years and daily routines and activities. On occasions, the childminder requests parents' views on her service to reflect on her practice and to help maintain her good-quality childcare.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder supports children's mathematical development well. For example, she helps children to recognise and sequence number lines beyond 10 and uses mathematical language to help children begin to understand concepts, such as shape language. The childminder observes and assesses children's development and sets suitable, challenging activities for them. For example, she helps older children to add and take away simple calculations. The childminder promotes children's early literacy skills even further. For example, children choose books from the local library to share them with their parents when they go home.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder promotes children's good health and physical exercise well. Children thoroughly enjoy their time in the childminder's garden and regular outings to facilities, such as local parks, soft play and weekly trips to the library. Children independently use one-handed tools to dig, scoop and fill pots with sand. The youngest children excitedly babble and older children scream with delight as they blow bubbles and chase them. Children enjoy social times together and with others. Children build strong relationships with the childminder and one another. For example, children help each other piece together a wooden train track. They clap and cheer each other when it is complete.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are working comfortably within the range of development typical for their age and make good progress in their learning. The youngest children babble and use gestures to communicate their needs and wants. They use single words, such as 'Bye' as they wave their hand. Older children speak confidently to the childminder and each other. They use more complex sentences and tricky words. For example, they point to the pictures in a book and say, 'It is an orangutan' and 'This is a walrus'.
