This provision is good
The childminder has made effective changes since her last inspection to improve children's safety. She has a thorough understanding of all aspects of safeguarding and implements effective procedures to help ensure children's well-being. Additionally, she has completed a paediatric first-aid course. The childminder is a good teacher who knows what children need to learn next and weaves teaching into their chosen activities. She makes detailed observations of children's development and monitors their progress across all areas of learning. The childminder supports children's communication and language skills well. She comments on their play, asks questions and repeats what they say in the correct way. The childminder introduces new words to add to children's increasing vocabulary. Children have good opportunities to learn about their local community and the wider world. They learn about cultural differences, celebrate a wide range of festivals, and

visit local community groups, farms and parks. Young children try hard to share and cooperate, and are encouraged to be helpful. The childminder manages children's emotions in a positive way and supports their good behaviour.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally, during some planned and spontaneous activities, the childminder does not fully engage the younger children to ensure their achievement is at the highest level.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

strengthen the quality of teaching even further to take full account of younger children's abilities, to increase their level of engagement and achievement to the highest level.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has updated her knowledge of child protection through completing further training and she keeps abreast of any changes to safeguarding procedures and legislation. She knows how to recognise when a child might be at risk of harm, such as from extreme behaviours and views. The childminder is confident about the action to take should she have a concern about the welfare of a child in her care. The childminder works closely with the local authority development team to keep herself up to date, and she has joined a childminding forum to share ideas and experiences to extend children's learning further. The childminder evaluates her practice, taking into account the views of parents and children. She plans future improvements to enhance the quality of care and learning provided.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder supports children's mathematical development well. For example, she provides exciting opportunities for children to count and begin to understand about weight and measurement. The childminder and children make shortbread biscuits in the shape of butterflies, to link to a current theme. Children that are most able are keen to rub together the butter and flour and explore how this changes to form a dough. The childminder demonstrates the use of weighing scales. She supports older children to add the correct amount of flour, after reading the information to them from the recipe book. The childminder keeps parents up to date with their children's progress. Parents are encouraged to share information about their child's learning and development at home.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder effectively promotes children's healthy lifestyles. She provides daily opportunities for children to play and learn in the garden and away from the home. This includes visiting local childcare groups where children mix with their peers and develop their social skills. Children show how comfortable they feel in the childminder's home. They are quickly reassured when visitors are present and are happy to engage them in their play. The childminder is skilled at developing children's knowledge of their own safety and teaches them how to be mindful of the safety of others. For example, children that are most able learn about the toys suitable for very young children and they demonstrate their secure understanding of road safety.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children lead their own play well and have good support to follow their own ideas, which supports their developing independence in readiness for the move on to school. They enjoy sitting together to listen to stories. The childminder's enthusiastic tone of voice encourages children to participate in the story and promotes their love of books. Younger children show an interest in early technology, pushing buttons and reacting excitedly as they make lights flash and music play.
