This provision is good
The childminder offers children opportunities to advance their physical skills. They particularly enjoy visiting local outdoor play areas. Children enthusiastically talk about their favourite activities, such as when they discuss climbing, jumping and playing with balls. The childminder evaluates how she is meeting the learning and development requirements. She has improved her knowledge of how to promote good outcomes for children. The childminder has a secure awareness of the children's favourite activities and she includes these in her planning for what they need to learn next. Children are settled and happy. The childminder offers children access to a warm and welcoming environment. She helps children that are new to the setting to integrate well with others. Children feel comfortable and secure and they display self-confidence as they move around in the environment. Since the last inspection, the childminder has made a number of changes to develop

her provision. For example, she has identified how to minimise risks in relation to animals. She closely supervises children as she allows them controlled access to the dog.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently allow children time to consider how they want to answer questions for themselves to further develop their communication skills. The childminder does not establish secure partnerships with staff at all other settings children attend to share precise details about children's learning and care.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector talked to the childminder about the areas of the house she uses for childcare. The inspector observed the childminder teaching and supporting children. The inspector viewed communications received from parents to gain their views of the childminder's provision. The inspector talked to the childminder about how she helps prepare children for the move to school. The inspector discussed improvements the childminder has made since the last inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps her knowledge of how to protect children current and she regularly completes safeguarding training. She has a secure awareness of wider safeguarding issues, such as how to protect children from extreme views. The childminder monitors the safe use of technology in her setting. For instance, she draws visitors' attention to her mobile phone policy and she requests that they turn off phones when children are in attendance. Recently, the childminder has made improvements to raise the quality of her service. She seeks advice from local authority advisers and she acts on recommendations made by other childcare professionals. For example, the childminder accesses some online learning resources. She now limits background noise during play so that there is less distraction for children that are engrossed in play.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder supports children's number recognition skills well, such as when she encourages them to recognise and write numbers. She talks to them about numbers they are less familiar with and celebrates with children when they master new skills. The childminder continues to develop her partnerships with parents. She has an accurate understanding of the levels of development that children are working at. The childminder communicates details of children's achievements with parents on a daily basis. She talks to parents about any gaps in their children's learning. The childminder encourages children to learn mathematical terms. She talks to them about opposites, such as 'heavy and light' and 'big and small'.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder has developed effective techniques for supporting children's positive behaviour. For example, she helps children to understand how others feel as a result of their actions. The childminder supervises children well and she is always available when they require help. She supports children to adopt a healthy diet and she talks to them about nourishing foods. The childminder shares information with parents about portion sizes that are suitable for young, growing children. She supports children to develop effective hygiene routines. For instance, the childminder encourages children to clean their hands before eating and talks to them about limiting the spread of germs.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children work well with their friends. They enjoy building structures with each other; they identify appropriate places to put the windows and doors. Children develop a good understanding of the world around them, such as when they pretend to cut sheep's woollen coats in a shearing machine. Children talk about the experience of picking up their friends from the local school. They make good progress and are well prepared to move on in their education.
