This provision is good
The childminder provides a welcoming and secure environment with a wide range of resources to encourage children's learning. She provides stimulating activities so that children have fun while they learn. The childminder regularly evaluates her practice and uses the information gained to identify ways to improve. The childminder obtains information from parents to find out what children can do at home. She uses this as part of her assessment of children's progress and to help her plan challenging activities that meet children's individual learning needs. The childminder shares information with parents about what their child is learning. She uses learning journals and parents' evenings to inform them about their child's progress. The childminder manages children's behaviour effectively. Children clearly demonstrate their understanding of expected behaviour. They share, take turns and help each other

in their play. The childminder gives constant praise for children's efforts.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not provide enough opportunities for children to develop their self-help skills, to prepare them fully for when they move on to primary school. The childminder's self-evaluation does not always include the views of parents.

Inspection activities
The inspector toured the setting to check that it was suitable. The inspector observed the quality of teaching and learning during indoor activities, and the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector examined children's records, including learning journals and tracking documents. The inspector checked policy and procedure documents. The inspector spoke to the childminder, a parent and the children throughout the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder uses robust policies to keep children safe and knows who to contact if she has concerns about a child. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is well qualified. She attends mandatory training and a wide range of other courses that increases her knowledge and helps to improve the quality of her provision. The childminder evaluates her own practice and makes changes where needed. She has established positive partnerships with parents, giving daily updates at handover times. The childminder shares assessment information with health visitors to ensure that any gaps in children's development are identified and acted upon.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans and provides stimulating activities based on the individual needs of each child. She uses ongoing assessments to plan next steps and successfully monitors children's progress to swiftly identify any gaps in their learning. Children enjoy reading books with the childminder and enthusiastically discuss stories to predict what happens next. The childminder uses puzzles and simple matching games to develop children's knowledge of mathematics. For example, they make patterns, talk about colours and shapes and count during a peg and board activity. Children enjoy representing their experiences through their play. For example, they dress up as a favourite character or pretend to be an adult going off to work. The childminder uses these times to show them how to fasten zips and buttons. At meal and snack times children are asked to try different tastes and textures, and the childminder encourages them to taste food, such as

tomatoes, when they say they do not like them. The children are curious about birds, planes and helicopters. They use the outdoor space to watch and listen for these, then the childminder reads stories that are linked to what they have seen.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children develop secure attachments, follow simple rules and know their routines. The setting is organised so that children can make independent choices in their play. They show pride in their achievements as the childminder gives them lots of praise and encouragement. They sit close to her at story time, so they feel safe and cared for. The childminder encourages their independence as she helps them to use the toilet and wash their own hands. The childminder takes children to visit local playgroups and the library so that they learn about their community and can socialise with others.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are progressing well from their starting points. They are working comfortably within the expected development range for their age. Children choose their own activities, respond to simple instructions and show kindness and caring towards each other. They are developing the necessary skills they need for their future learning.
