Inspection activities
The inspector considered the views of children spoken with on the day. The inspector took account of the views of parents. The inspector observed the quality of teaching and learning during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector sampled documentation and discussed with the childminder how she reflects on her practice. The inspector evaluated an activity with the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder understands the procedures to follow should she have any concerns about a child's safety or welfare. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder supports children to understand how to keep themselves safe. For example, she carries out fire drills at different times of the day so that all children are confident when responding to safety hazards. The childminder effectively plans for children's learning and makes good use of the inside and outside space. Feedback from parents is extremely positive. They comment on the positive settling in process for young children and that their children are happy and settled. The childminder evaluates her provision to help drive improvements that benefit children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides a good balance between adult-led and child-initiated activities as she uses observations of children's learning and follows their interests. The environment is stimulating and children enjoy the activities and resources the childminder provides. The childminder is consistent in supporting children's language and communication development, providing narrative throughout the day, such as during mealtimes. She uses outdoor activities to help promote children's learning. For example, children use water, buckets and brushes to paint shapes on the wall and watch shapes form with bubbles. The childminder supports young children's progress, enabling them to freely move between activities and she spontaneously responds to children's learning needs.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder knows families and children very well. Children respect each other and enjoy involving the childminder in their play. They know the daily routine and help to pack and tidy away resources. The childminder provides exciting opportunities for children to take appropriate risks, explore and build self-confidence. Children have regular trips to the woods and park. The childminder leads by example and encourages children to develop their independence. For example, she encourages the youngest children to pour from a jug and to feed themselves. She promotes children's good hygiene, such as encouraging them to wash their hands as they sing a handwashing song.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are eager to learn and explore the next stage of their learning. They have lots of opportunities to learn skills, such as taking turns and respecting the feeling of others. Children make good progress. The childminder uses accurate information to make positive improvements to close the gap in children's learning. Younger children have lots of opportunity for mark making and developing their awareness of mathematics. For example, counting each time they go up and down the garden steps and on the ladder to the slide.
