This provision is good

 The childminder plans and provides children with interesting and challenging experiences, which help them to become keen and motivated learners. All children make good progress in their learning, given their starting capabilities and interests.  Children's behaviour is impeccable. The childminder is an excellent role model. She uses highly successful ways to teach children how to behave extremely well. She gives them very clear messages about boundaries and expectations.  The childminder is keen to improve her professional knowledge and regularly identifies relevant training and support. For example, she recently carried out online training to develop further strategies to manage children's positive behaviour.  The childminder completes thorough risk assessments to minimise hazards and teaches children how to keep themselves safe successfully. Children are well cared for in a very clean environment.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not fully encourage parents to share information about their children's learning at home to complement their learning fully.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 encourage parents to share information more regularly about their children's development at home.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed children engaged in activities, including their interactions with the childminder and assessed the impact on their learning.  The inspector took account of the written feedback provided by parents.  The inspector looked at areas of the premises used for childminding and sampled relevant documentation, including children's records.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder and spoke with children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector and childminder jointly observed children at play.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a clear understanding of her role and responsibility to protect children. She knows the procedures to follow if she has a concern about the welfare of a child and keeps up to date with current safeguarding guidance. The childminder monitors her practice well and has addressed the recommendations made at her previous inspection. For example, she provides more opportunities for children to extend their early writing skills. The childminder regularly reviews and tracks children's progress effectively and successfully closes any emerging gaps in their learning. She shares this information with parents to help promote consistency in children's care and learning.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn. She plans exciting activities that challenge children and motivate them to learn well. The childminder provides good levels of support to extend children's communication and language skills. For instance, she questions children expertly and uses every opportunity to repeat children's communication and introduces new vocabulary. The childminder provides children with a very exciting variety of textures and materials to extend their creative and mathematical skills successfully. For example, children enjoyed making models with play dough, and calculating and matching shapes in bowls of colourful water. The childminder skilfully extended their learning further by asking them interesting questions to help them think and solve problems.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder has excellent relationships with the children and is attentive to children's individual needs. Children show that they feel highly valued and settled, and they form extremely close attachments to the childminder. They develop high levels of independence during activities as they choose from a wealth of high-quality resources that are easily available to them. Children have excellent opportunities to socialise and learn about differences between themselves and others. For example, children visit places of interest to meet and interact with other children and adults, to develop their excellent social skills. Children develop very good self-care skills around personal hygiene and enjoy exceptional healthy meals and regular opportunities for fresh air.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress and gain useful skills for their future learning, including when they move on to school. They are inquisitive, show curiosity and are constantly engaged in exciting activities that motivate them to learn. Children play cooperatively and share ideas and toys with each other. They are encouraged to lead their own play and have excellent opportunities to build their self-esteem.
