Monitoring visit Inspected under the social care common inspection framework
p.1
Information about this children’s home
The home provides care and support to young people who have been placed in the care of the local authority. Placements are available for up to five young people, irrespective of gender, up to 17 years of age at the point of admission. The primary focus of placements is to promote independent living skills in preparation for life after leaving care.

This monitoring visit
This children’s home was judged inadequate at the full inspection on 18 April 2018. Consequently, a restriction notice on placements was issued along with three compliance notices. The compliance notices relate to the protection of young people and the education of young people. This visit was to check that the notices issued had been adhered to and that there was progress in addressing the deficits in the safeguarding and the education of the young people in residency. The restriction of new placements to the home has been followed. Two of the compliance notices were met in full. One compliance notice was almost met. As a result of the progress made in relation to the steps on that notice, no further action will be taken. Suitable action has been taken to ensure that each young person’s needs can be met individually and as a group living together. This has resulted in some of the young people moving placement.

This monitoring visit
The home’s staffing arrangements have been reviewed and changes have been made so that there is a sufficient number of staff, including a full management team. All the staff working in the home are trained to understand and implement all safeguarding policies and procedures which keep each young person safe and protect them from harm. This includes missing from care protocols, behaviour Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC035998 2 management and the safe use of physical intervention. Appropriate action has been taken to eliminate bullying, harassing and intimidating behaviour presented by the young people. The implementation of consistent routines and boundaries supports and improves the young people’s care. Currently, one young person does not have an education placement. This continues to negatively impact on the young person’s ability to learn and prevents their ability to achieve academically. However, the placing authority has made plans to address
