This provision is good
The childminder carries out daily checks and thorough risk assessments of her premises which help to promote children's safety. She supervises children well. The childminder has systems in place to share information with other early years settings that children in her care may attend to help complement their learning. The childminder makes good use of personal research and training to update her knowledge and refresh her skills. She welcomes the support of the local authority advisers to help to improve her practice. This helps her to continually promote good outcomes for children. The quality of her teaching is consistently good. The childminder helps children to learn about the importance of healthy lifestyles. She provides healthy snacks and plenty of opportunities for children to enjoy and benefit from fresh air and exercise. The childminder and her assistant provide a warm and welcoming environment for

children. They are caring and affectionate towards them.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The storage of the toys and resources is not organised in the most effective way to enable children to make choices independently and develop their play even further. The childminder does not provide consistent opportunities for parents to share ongoing information about their children's learning at home to enable them to be more involved in children's learning.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke with a selection of parents and took account of their views. The inspector looked at children's assessment records and a range of other documentation, including accident records, and she discussed the childminder's self- evaluation document with the childminder. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of the childminder and the childminder's qualifications. The inspector held discussions with the childminder, including to jointly evaluate an activity. The inspector spoke with children at appropriate times during the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder and her assistant have a good knowledge of the possible signs of abuse and know how to refer any concerns to the relevant authorities. The childminder monitors children's progress to help her to close any gaps in their development and to plan for their future learning. The childminder regularly evaluates and reflects on the service she provides. She seeks the views of parents and children to inform areas for future development. For example, she has plans to make changes to her garden to enable her to extend learning opportunities, particularly for children who prefer to learn outdoors. The childminder has procedures in place to review her assistant's practice to help her develop her knowledge and skills. She ensures her assistant is fully informed and has a good understanding of her policies and procedures.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder makes regular observations and assessments of children's learning and uses this information to plan for their next stages of development. The childminder places a good focus on supporting children's language and communication. For example, she consistently adds new words into conversations to help extend children's vocabulary and listens carefully to what they say. She acknowledges younger children's gestures and babbles which helps them to understand that their vocalisations are valued. The childminder provides good opportunities for children to develop their creative skills and to help to promote their early writing skills. Children are motivated and excited as they use different resources to paint and draw on large sheets of transparent plastic film. Children's understanding of different people, families, communities and traditions is effectively promoted through the opportunities that the childminder provides.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are very happy, settled and content in the childminder's home. The childminder has a loving, nurturing approach which helps children to build strong bonds with her. She is sensitive to their needs and attends to them promptly. The childminder effectively supports children's self-esteem in many ways. For example, she is very attentive and provides lots of praise and encouragement. Children behave well. They learn to share, take turns and play cooperatively. Children are sociable and confident. They learn to do things for themselves, such spreading their toast with butter at snack time.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are motivated and fascinated learners. They are confident communicators who express their wants and needs. They are learning to be independent and demonstrate good levels of concentration and a can-do attitude. Children learn to recognise shapes. They develop a love of books. All children make good progress from their starting points and learn skills that prepare them well for their next stage in learning.
