This provision is good
The highly qualified childminder and her dedicated assistant provide an exciting and very stimulating environment for children. They demonstrate a good understanding of how children learn and complete detailed observations and assessments. This helps them to accurately plan for what children need to learn next. Children occasionally make better than typical progress. They particularly excel in areas, such as mathematical development and literacy skills. The childminder and her assistant skilfully promote these areas throughout all activities. For instance, children learn how to count, compare and predict during construction building activities. Children settle very quickly in this inviting and welcoming setting. The childminder and her assistant gather information from parents prior to their children starting the setting. This helps them to identify what children know and can already do. Furthermore, this

helps children to build effective attachments to those who care for them. The childminder and her assistant provide good opportunities for children to develop an understanding of how to lead a healthy lifestyle. For example, children learn how to grow their own vegetables and use these to make their own foods. Furthermore, children help to care for the childminder's chickens and collect their eggs.

It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder has not precisely identified further professional development opportunities for her assistant to help to raise the overall quality to first-rate levels.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed an evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistant demonstrate a good understanding of the procedure to follow in the event of a concern regarding the welfare of a child. They have implemented effective practices that help to reduce risks to children. The childminder regularly follows high standards of hygiene practices, including sterilising toys and equipment. This helps to minimise the spread of infection. The highly qualified childminder completes regular supervision sessions with her assistant. She uses this to address key strengths and practice improvements. The childminder regularly reviews her practice and the overall progress children make. She shares this information with parents. This helps to provide a continued approach to children's learning and development needs. Additionally, the childminder shares accurate information with those other early years providers where children attend.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Teaching is strong and in some instances, is outstanding. The childminder and her assistant sensitively join in with children's play and follow their lead. They use good questioning methods and provide children with time to think about their responses. This helps to develop children's imagination. Children have a wide range of stimulating resources to choose from. They are continually engaged in their play. Babies create different sounds as they bang together various pots and pans. The childminder uses puppets and props, and engages all children in exciting songs and story times. Children listen attentively to familiar stories and rhymes. They interact with others and take turns during activities. This helps to promote children's social skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder and her assistant take children on regular outings. Children attend various groups and exciting activities, including trips to the park. This helps to promote children's physical skills. Children behave well. They listen and respond to instructions given and demonstrate good social skills. They follow good self-care practice. This helps to promote their independence. Children learn about the natural world and develop an understanding of how to care for other living things. They confidently read out instruction cards as they learn to plant flowers in the garden.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident and demonstrate high levels of self-esteem. They help to create labels and give meaning to marks they make. This helps to promote children's early writing skills. Children develop good communication skills. They join in with conversation and learn to develop their large and small-muscle skills during games, such as blowing bubbles. Children are well equipped with the key skills needed for future learning.
