This provision is good
Children are progressing well. The childminder successfully observes and assesses children while they play. She can easily identify any weaknesses in learning and closes the gaps quickly. The childminder provides a warm, welcoming and homely environment. Good-quality toys and resources are attractively presented and easily accessible to children, who make choices about their own play. The childminder skilfully supports and encourages children's independence in activities and care routines. Children feel proud to achieve things by themselves. The childminder has suitable expectations of children's behaviour and sets age- appropriate rules and boundaries. Children respond well and their behaviour is good. The childminder uses self-evaluation to highlight appropriate areas of development that will improve her practice even further.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently provide challenge or extension during children's play to ensure that they make the best possible progress. The childminder's professional development programme is not targeted highly enough on raising the standard of teaching to an exceptional level.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further
enhance teaching to offer children extra challenge in their experiences to accelerate their progress even further focus professional development more sharply on raising the quality of teaching to a higher level.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector was given a tour of the areas of the home used for childminding purposes. The inspector looked at children's records, a sample of policies and evidence of the suitability of the childminder and other adults in the household. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder recognises the signs and symptoms of abuse and knows whom to contact should she have cause for concern about the welfare of a child. She undertakes regular checks of the environment and takes appropriate steps to ensure it remains safe for children. The childminder works in close partnership with her co-childminder to provide a consistent and continuous approach to children's learning and care. Partnerships with parents are good. The childminder shares information with them daily about what children have achieved and experienced, to promote continuity in their learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder helps children to develop a good range of skills. She makes learning enjoyable to help engage children. For example, she encourages their imagination as she enthusiastically joins in with their role play, using toy food and a tea set. The childminder includes all children in activities, offering help to the younger children as needed. The childminder plays alongside children and introduces new words to help extend their developing vocabulary. For example, she encourages children to take turns and name different types of food as they play a game. The childminder supports children's emerging speaking and imaginative skills effectively. The play opportunities provided stimulate the children's senses and motivate them to learn. For example, the children enjoy the calming atmosphere in the sensory room. The childminder frequently praises the children, which raises their confidence and encourages them to keep trying.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder helps children to recognise and acknowledge their feelings, and they enjoy discussing these as she shares stories with them. She encourages children's independence and cooperation to help prepare them for school. The childminder routinely praises children during their play and routines. This helps to promote their sense of self- esteem. She uses the extensive resources in the garden to help support their physical development. The childminder teaches children about the importance of a safe and healthy lifestyle. She has a calm and patient approach and she supports children's personal care needs and helps children to develop confidence in managing these.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are curious and active learners. They welcome each other into their activities and persevere together when solving simple problems during their play. Children enjoy trying new experiences and are highly motivated in their learning. All children make good progress from their starting points. They are well prepared for the next steps in their learning and development, and for their eventual move on to school.
