Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Since registration, the childminder has developed her practice well and reviewed and re- organised the play area. This encourages children to access the toys and make choices in their play confidently. The childminder monitors and tracks children's progress well overall and effectively identifies their next steps in learning. She successfully implements effective policies and procedures, and maintains a secure, organised and safe environment overall to promote children's well-being. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder attends training to strengthen the quality of her teaching and focuses strongly on keeping her safeguarding knowledge up to date. This has enhanced her understanding of child protection and reinforced her procedures to follow if she has a concern about a child's welfare.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder enthusiastically engages children and has a good understanding of how they learn. She skilfully takes the lead from their play and extends their experiences further, for example, stories read lead on to showing children the texture of real logs. The childminder successfully introduces mathematical concepts and plays games introducing numbers well. She encourages the children to compare the size of their breadstick pieces and helps them to understand whether it is smaller or bigger. The childminder supports the children's early communications well. For example, she commentates and asks them questions, and children confidently use gestures, words and vocal sounds in response well.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children engage in a good range of activities to promote their physical development, health and well-being. For example, they learn about good personal-hygiene practices and wash and dry their hands. Children enjoy exercise, such as engaging in walks, visiting the chickens and playing on the ride-on toys. The childminder makes children aware of potential hazards well, overall. For example, she encourages them to be aware of the floor space and engages them in tidying up. She monitors how much the children drink and provides a good balance of homemade nutritious meals.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are enthusiastic explorers who demonstrate increasing confidence. For example, they show great interest in vehicles and sensory toys, and use their imaginations and physical skills well. Children are inquisitive, sociable and show increasing independence. For instance, they learn to open the pedal bin with their foot and find the changing mat. They show confidence with identifying colours and demonstrate a joy of literature, listening to and engaging well with stories. They learn key skills to prepare them for their next stage in learning and move to school.
