This provision is good

 The childminder has developed strong relationships with parents. She shares each child's next steps in learning with their parents. This helps to raise the confidence of parents in supporting their child's learning in the home environment.  The childminder includes the views of parents, children and her assistant in the self- evaluation processes of the provision. This helps her to identify any areas on which to focus that will enhance the provision further. Outcomes for children are good.  The childminder provides confidential meetings for the assistant. This helps to identify any training needs and provides the opportunity to discuss any concerns the assistant may have.  The childminder and her assistant demonstrate warmth and care towards children in their care. This helps to foster children's strong emotional attachments and helps them to develop friendships.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not yet promote excellent relationships with other providers that children attend, to share information about the care and learning of children.  There are few opportunities for children to learn about similarities and difference.

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 strengthen professional relationships with other providers that children attend, to ensure there is consistency and continuity for all children's care, learning and development  extend activities to help children to learn about the similarities and differences between themselves and others in the local and wider community.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder.  The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living and working at the premises.  The inspector spoke to children during the inspection and took account of the views of parents through the written feedback they provided.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder keeps her child protection training up to date. She also makes sure that her assistant knows what to do and whom to contact should she have a concern about any child. The childminder makes sure that all areas of the house are checked each morning. She makes sure that she and the assistant are well deployed to keep children safe and well. The childminder works closely with her assistant. She reviews the educational programmes to ensure all children are progressing well across all areas of their learning and development.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder takes children on a range of outings to places of interest. For example, children enjoy finding out about the world around them as they go on regular nature walks. Here, the childminder encourages children to observe the changes in the weather. She enhances children's learning further as she encourages them to identify birds and insects and to talk about their findings. The childminder engages well with children. She uses a range of questioning techniques that helps children to think critically and to solve their own problems. The childminder and the assistant spend much of their time interacting with children, encouraging their investigations as they freely explore the toys and resources around them. The childminder has fun with children as they put puzzles together. She uses demonstration to show them how to turn the pieces round to make them fit, encouraging children to 'have a go' and keep trying.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder provides children with a broad range of fruit and drinks of water throughout the day. She encourages children to take manageable risks in their play as they use the climb and balance equipment in the garden and other equipment at the local parks. Children enjoy riding around and chasing their friends on their tricycles and scooters. These activities help children to develop their awareness about the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children are becoming increasingly ready for the next stage of their learning, including their move on to school. Children enjoy singing songs with their friends. They know the actions and giggle as they sing along. Children like to relax and look through their favourite books. They become excited as they enjoy story time and are keen to predict the story endings. Children enjoy making marks as they explore paints, foam and sand, and competently use a range of tools to develop their skills.
