Inspection activities
The childminder observed the quality of teaching during activities, indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector and the childminder jointly evaluated an activity together. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as evidence of the suitability of those living on the premises and the qualifications of the childminder. The inspector spoke to the childminder, her co-childminder and the children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector took account of parents' written comments.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has an extremely thorough knowledge of child protection and the actions to take if she has any concerns about children's welfare. Comprehensive risk assessments are completed and the childminder is highly vigilant of children at all times. She expertly and consistently teaches children how to keep themselves safe. The childminder accurately monitors the achievement made by individual children to identify any gaps. She is now looking to use the excellent information from assessments to further check the progress made by different groups of children. The childminder continues to seek opportunities for further professional development and training. This helps her to gain ideas that further support children's excellent outcomes and to extend her own skills.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
The childminder has an in-depth knowledge of how children learn and develop. She skilfully follows their interests and provides purposeful activities to extend their learning. For example, children become engrossed in creating their own models using various sizes of blocks. The childminder expertly introduces mathematical concepts, such as shapes, numbers and positional language. Children become excited at their design and enjoy taking photographs with a camera. They delight in showing their friends and adults their structures and talk about them animatedly. The childminder provides young children with unique sensory and creative experiences. For example, she provides many natural items for them to explore to support children's increasing awareness of the natural world.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder provides an extremely well-organised environment in which everything is readily accessible for children to choose for themselves, to inspire them to learn and encourage their inquisitiveness. For example, outdoors, children are fascinated to look at bugs closely and they excitedly find a magnifying glass so they can investigate and see them more clearly. Children develop a secure attachment to the childminder. She values the information that parents provide when children start attending, using it to help children settle quickly. The childminder uses every opportunity to support children in leading a healthy lifestyle and developing skills for independence. They confidently make choices about the food they eat for snacks and share their understanding of why it is important to wash their hands before mealtimes.
p.3
Outcomes for children are outstanding
Children are well prepared for their next stage in learning. They have opportunities to learn about letters and the sounds they represent. They practise making marks and enjoy writing letters and numbers. Children thoroughly enjoy creative play and use their existing knowledge, along with their imagination, as they explore and begin to make sense of the world around them.
