This provision is good

 The childminder demonstrates strong teaching skills, with particularly good emphasis on supporting children's speaking skills. The gaps are closing quickly for children who are below the typical levels of development in communication and language.  The childminder provides children with a very welcoming and stimulating play environment. It is used well by the childminder to help all children make good progress in their learning and development  Children form very strong relationships with the childminder. She pays strong attention to settling in new children. All children are confident and show a zest for learning.  Self-evaluation is effective. The new childminder sets herself high standards. She is keen to develop and improve her setting further.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not consistently gain full information about children's capabilities on entry to her setting.  The childminder recognises she can enhance her literacy planning further to enable children to foster a greater love of books and stories.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 extend information gathered on children's entry to the setting  enhance opportunities for children to develop their literacy skills even further.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the play activities, spoke to children and evaluated the quality of the teaching in the home.  The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times during inspection and discussed methods for assessing children's progress and how she evaluates the quality of provision.  The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of what to do if she had a child protection concern and carries out her mobile phone procedure closely. She supervises children very well and keeps her required documents up to date. The childminder is aware of her key strengths and has a clear vision for the future of her business. For example, she intends to access further training and has plans to develop the garden. The childminder builds strong, communicative relationships with parents and ensures she shares regular information with them about their children's care and education.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children enjoy learning opportunities while in the care of the childminder. She has clear learning objectives for each individual child to support their ongoing development. The childminder has a good knowledge of the observation, assessment and planning process and adapts her teaching skills to meet the learning needs of all children. For example, she sets mathematical challenges for children to count, problem solve and recognise numerals. She uses an enthusiastic tone of voice during a lively and engaging song time which excites and motivates children to join in. The childminder interacts with children well. She models vocabulary clearly, talking about what she is doing, and repeats and extends children's speech back to them to help them learn quickly.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder skilfully promotes children's sense of belonging and self-esteem. She offers them plenty of praise and encouragement. Children are very happy and behave well, helped by the childminder's clear and consistent guidance. They recognise and respond positively to the daily routine. For example, they independently put their shoes on to go outside. The childminder works effectively in partnership with parents on health and self-care, such as toileting. She effectively supports children's understanding of staying healthy. For example, she provides healthy snacks and lunches and opportunities for children to enjoy fresh air and exercise on a daily basis, such as visits to local parks.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good developmental progress. They settle quickly and develop high levels of self-assurance. Children make choices in play and concentrate well. They make shapes and marks on paper and learn how to use scissors. Children learn how to take turns and share toys, such as the musical instruments during song time. They are imaginative, taking on the role of a fox, wearing a mask and pretending to chase chickens around the play cabin. Children quickly learn the skills needed for their move to school.
