This provision is good

 Children have very close relationships with the childminder, who they approach happily for cuddles and to join her in play. They display high levels of self-esteem and enjoy being given additional responsibilities, such as collecting the post, which they confidently accept.  The childminder has a secure understanding of how she can support each child's learning. She carefully observes their play and identifies their interests, which she then uses to provide a wide range of enjoyable and engaging activities to help them progress.  Parents report how happy their children are and how the childminder keeps them well- informed about the activities she provides. The childminder encourages parents to share their views and ideas, helping her to effectively target plans for the future.  Children's language skills are particularly strong. The childminder encourages children to ask questions and think through their ideas. They enjoy talking about their

experiences and display good listening skills.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder has not fully explored ways to extend partnerships with other settings that children attend.  The childminder does not consistently provide information about children's next steps in learning to parents in a timely manner to help them support these at home.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 explore ways to extend partnerships with other providers who care for the children, to improve the consistency of care and learning even further  provide timely information to parents about their child's next steps, to help them support these further at home.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed a range of activities indoors and conducted a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times.  The inspector took account of the written views of parents.  The inspector reviewed a sample of documentation and records.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a very secure understanding of how to keep children safe and reminds them of how they can take care of themselves and others. The childminder recognises signs of abuse and neglect and knows the procedures to follow if she had concerns. She reviews her practice regularly and plans relevant training to improve her service. This helps to ensure she meets each child's individual needs. In the past, she has worked closely with other professionals, including health visitors and speech and language therapists, to enhance the care she provides to children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder sits with children as they play, encouraging them to talk about what they are doing. She introduces new vocabulary, which children repeat with interest. The childminder recognises children's interest in vehicles and uses this to encourage them to explore different areas of learning. For example, they build a bus from junk modelling and compare sizes of vehicles as they attempt to draw them. The childminder carefully monitors children's progress, allowing her to identify any gaps in their learning quickly and plan activities to help minimise these. This helps ensure that all children make at least typical progress from their starting points.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children visibly enjoy their time with the childminder. They respond very well when the childminder praises them for having a go at new challenges, ensuring they develop high levels of confidence. Children learn to respect one another and behave very well. The childminder encourages children to think about their similarities and respect each other's differences. The childminder effectively supports children who are toilet-training. She enthusiastically praises them for their efforts and children are very proud of their achievements.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children develop good early writing skills, such as when they use crayons to draw a train on a large sheet of paper. They confidently describe their picture, adding further details, such as windows. Children enjoy helping the childminder to prepare and cook pasta for lunch. They show great interest as they help measure out the ingredients and as they watch what happens to the water when it begins to boil. They use simple calculations during their play and make comparisons between different shapes. Children are developing the skills required to achieve well at school.
