For example, they use rulers to measure how much the potatoes, strawberries and beans they planted have grown. They confidently tell staff the plants need sun and water to grow. Babies have an equally exciting environment. The cosy and homely space offers plentiful opportunities for babies to explore using all their senses. They delight in feeling the

Children thrive when challenged and delight in solving their own problems. Children enjoy mark making in a variety of ways in good preparation for learning to write, for example, as they paint with brushes and rollers on large poster sheets in the garden. Children learn to write and read their names, and to link letters to the sounds they represent. All children develop the necessary skills for their move on to the next stage of their learning.
