This supports their language development and social skills.  Self-evaluation is used effectively to identify areas for improvement and ensures

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 At times, the childminder does not give children sufficient time to think and respond to questions, to extend their thinking skills fully.  Children do not always experience a rich range of opportunities to develop their sensory skills fully.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 provide further opportunities to allow children more time to think, process and answer questions to develop their thinking skills further  ensure children are provided with greater opportunities to develop their understanding of nature and develop their sensory skills.

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the effect this has on children's learning.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder during the inspection.  The inspector looked at children's assessment records and discussed how the childminder monitors children's progress.  The inspector checked evidence of suitability checks and recent training.  The inspector took into account parents' views through written evidence.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The dedicated childminder continually strives to improve her provision. For example, she attends regular training and network meetings to reflect on her practice and to keep her knowledge and skills up to date. Her evaluation of her provision is accurate and takes into account the views of parents and children. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a clear understanding of her responsibilities to keep children safe and understands what action to take if she has any concerns about a child's welfare. Partnerships with parents are good. Parents' feedback questionnaires show high levels of satisfaction and praise the childminder's commitment to her work and the quality of care that their children receive.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder engages well with children. She happily sings songs and rhymes with puppets, which captures children's interest and helps their language development. The childminder effectively supports children's mathematical skills and creativity. For example, children enjoy making play dough, using lots of mathematical language as well as naming colours and shapes. The childminder gains relevant information from parents about their child's interests and what they can do when they start. She successfully uses this information, along with ongoing observations, to provide a variety of enjoyable experiences to meet children's individual needs. The childminder is good at sharing information about children's progress with parents. This effective partnership working helps to ensure continuity of care.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

There is a good settling-in procedure. Children settle extremely well and develop a secure bond with the childminder. This helps children to feel safe and secure. The childminder works closely with parents to ensure that children are provided with healthy meals and snacks. Children have daily opportunities for outdoor play at local parks and on local trips in the community. This helps children to develop an understanding of the importance of healthy and active lifestyles. Children take part in activities that help them to recognise and value similarities and differences in others. For example, they enjoy celebrating Hanukkah and learning about the festival of lights.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are happy and enthusiastic learners. They are confident to explore and make independent choices. They show good imagination and enjoy participating in small-world play, for example, with trains and construction toys. Children gain the essential skills to prepare them well for their next stage of learning, including school.
