This provision is good
The childminder knows the children very well. Children feel secure and go to her for reassurance and cuddles. There is a wide variety of materials in a bright, open space and children are encouraged to make choices about their play and learning. They all make good progress. Partnerships with parents are strong. Parents speak positively about the childminder and value the daily feedback they receive about their children. The childminder effectively provides connections between the children's home and her setting, for example, using home languages when they sing songs. This helps increase children's emotional security and builds on their language skills. The childminder effectively supports children emotionally for their move to school.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
On occasion, the childminder and her assistants do not give children sufficient time to answer questions and are too quick to jump in with the answer. The childminder does not consistently use her effective assessments of children's learning to track children's development more precisely.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

ensure children have sufficient time to think before offering them an answer to a question continue to improve the use of children's learning assessment to support the good tracking of outcomes for children even more precisely.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder, her assistants and the children playing together indoors and outside in the garden. The inspector viewed a sample of documentation, including policies, children's learning records and documents relating to the assistants. The inspector discussed planning and daily activities with the childminder during the inspection. The inspector read comments from parents and took these into account.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder reviews her practice and makes positive changes which promote children's learning. The childminder supports her assistants well, creating a happy working team with excellent communication. She supervises her assistants closely and gives constructive feedback on their practice. They are given opportunities to develop their practice, such as through training and attendance at childminder meetings. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistants have a good knowledge of the indicators of abuse, reporting processes and they know the importance of recording and reporting concerns. They regularly review and share training they have been on to improve their practice. The recruitment and vetting process is rigorous and thorough, and helps ensure suitability of the assistants.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children have access to a wide range of learning opportunities, indoors and outside, and they talk about the activities around them. For example, children know that the tiny incubator in the corner contains eggs that will hatch into chicks. Younger children are supported well in their language development, for example, through singing activities. They make choices about which songs they sing and enthusiastically join in with their own ideas, developing their vocabulary. Older children use mathematical language as they play. For example, they count when scooping jelly and model this to younger children. Children are imaginative and use their knowledge from everyday life to create play activities, such as making 'vacuum cleaners' from building blocks then using them to 'clean' the floor.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are well behaved and enjoy each other's company. They listen well to instructions and know what is expected of them. The childminder reinforces good manners and politeness. The childminder and her assistants are respectful to one another and the children, treating them with kindness and care. Children enjoy a healthy and varied diet. The childminder values time outside in the garden and encourages children to use different types of equipment to develop their physical skills. She reminds them about keeping safe and closely supervises their play. Good hygiene practices are in place, for example, children wash their hands when they come in from the garden.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children learn skills which will enable a smooth move to future settings or school. They are eager and confident learners. All children are encouraged to be independent. For example, babies are supported well to feed themselves and older children pour their water at snack time. Children have good social skills and are able to let adults know when they need help.
