This provision is good
All children make good progress in relation to their starting points. The highly qualified childminder places a strong emphasis on supporting children to develop the skills they need to become independent. She prepares children well for transitions in life, such as when the time comes for them to start school. The childminder provides opportunities for children to learn how to assess and manage small risks during challenging and adventurous outdoor play. Children test their physical skills when they use a low climbing wall during an outing with the childminder. Young children learn to negotiate steps and stairs safely. Children are self-assured, confident and motivated learners. The childminder promotes children's emotional well-being and boosts their self-confidence through positive interaction and praise. Children clearly enjoy their time spent with the childminder. The childminder makes relevant plans for continuous improvement. She regularly

updates her knowledge through training and self-directed research. This means that children benefit from the childminder's professional up-to-date knowledge.

It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder helps children develop an awareness of mathematics. For example, they learn to count in sequence. However, she occasionally misses small opportunities to extend children's understanding of the concept of quantity.

make the best use of opportunities to develop and build on children's understanding of the concept of quantity to support them at the highest level.

Inspection activities
The inspector had a tour of the premises and checked all areas used for childminding. The inspector observed an adult-led activity. She discussed with the childminder the quality of teaching and the impact this has on children's learning and development. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of all persons living on the premises. The inspector looked at documentation, such as the childminder's training certificates, a sample of policies and procedures and children's learning records. The inspector interacted with children at appropriate times and took account of recently completed written feedback supplied by parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder is dedicated to providing a high standard of service and quality learning experiences for all children. She considers information gathered from parents and children when evaluating her practice. The childminder monitors children's progress effectively. She identifies and addresses any gaps in learning and development. Children benefit from a consistent and cohesive approach to their education and care. The childminder shares information with the local pre-school and regularly updates parents about their children's progress. Parents comment they appreciate all she does to support their children's learning and development. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows the procedure she must follow if she has concerns for a child. She is aware of the indicators that children may be at risk of extreme views and opinions.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder explains and demonstrates new skills to help children learn and understand. She uses information from observations and assessments to help her support and extend children's learning. Children's knowledge of literacy is enhanced when they listen avidly to stories read to them by the childminder. Their communication and language skills are promoted during a science experiment involving flowers. Children identify the individual parts of flowers. They mix food colouring with water and pour the solution into flower vases. Even young toddlers confidently fill pipettes with coloured water. Older children predict what will happen as the water travels up the flower stem.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children benefit from nutritious snacks, such as fruit and healthy homemade meals. They behave well and play together cooperatively as they match colours and shapes. Children are clearly settled and demonstrate they feel safe in the childminder's care. The childminder swiftly attends to children's personal care needs, such as when they need to rest and sleep. Children are taught the importance of sun protection and washing their hands before eating. They learn to share and are respectful and tolerant of each other.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children are well prepared for the next stage in their learning. Even young toddlers demonstrate the capacity to concentrate for extended periods of time. Children listen perceptively and follow instructions. They are lively and industrious learners. Children giggle and their unique personalities shine through as they talk to the childminder about what interests them. Children enjoy play that stimulates their curiosity and encourages them to explore and investigate. For example, children play with dry oats and utensils in a tray. They have fun as they scoop the oats, pour them through funnels and squeeze them in their hands.
