opportunities and she makes more effective use of questioning to extend and challenge children's thinking. This demonstrates her commitment to drive improvement.

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of safeguarding and she keeps up to date with changes in legislation. She knows the signs to look out for and the procedures to follow if she has any concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder risk assesses the environments used by the children, to help keep them safe and secure. Children learn to keep themselves safe, for instance, as they use tools such as scissors. The childminder establishes trusting relationships with parents and she shares information on a daily basis about the children's care and education. Parents praise the way in which their children are making good progress in all areas of development.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The enthusiastic childminder plans many worthwhile activities linked to the children's interests. She plans children's next steps for learning precisely and focuses highly on these to help children make good progress in all activities. The childminder uses many effective teaching techniques, such as open questioning, suggesting, demonstrating and facilitating. Children are very excited as they use puppets to act out familiar storylines. They listen attentively and increase their vocabulary as they are introduced to new words and phrases. Children make good progress in mathematics. During a dough activity, they focus well as they count, identify shapes, name colours and talk about different sizes. Children enjoy finding out how things work. For example, they use magnifying glasses to observe the texture on sticks and facial features.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder has close relationships with the children and they are very relaxed in her care. Children join in eagerly with conversations about their own life experiences and people who are important to them. The childminder has secure boundaries in place to help young children learn right from wrong. She places a strong emphasis on praising children's positive behaviour and achievements. Children make good progress in their physical development. They enjoy outings to the park where they ride their scooters, balance, climb and slide on apparatus.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress from their starting points. They are inquisitive and keen to learn. Children become increasingly independent, for example, as they wash the table for snacks and cut up their fruit. They develop friendships, share and take turns. Children learn to hold a pencil for early writing. They are well prepared for their next stage of learning and/or starting school.
