This provision is good
The childminder has strong partnerships with parents. She regularly shares information about the children's good progress, and daily routines and activities. Parents are very positive about the care and support their children receive from the childminder. Children are happy and confident with the childminder. They have warm relationships with her. She responds with kindness and enthusiasm, to help children feel safe and secure. The childminder promotes learning and development in all areas consistently well. She supports children's learning effectively and plans around their interests, and this helps them to remain excited and motivated while they play. Children are supported to become independent, kind and caring individuals who form good relationships with each other.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Younger children have fewer opportunities to build on their curiosity and explore everyday objects and natural materials, than in other areas of learning. The childminder's assessment does not consistently provide the clearest overview of the impact of teaching, to help her to identify and address any gaps in learning at the earliest possible opportunity.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector had a tour of the areas of the premises used for childminding purposes. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector reviewed and discussed relevant documentation, including the evidence of suitable persons living on the premises.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of her role in protecting children from harm and keeps her knowledge up to date. She understands the reporting procedures if she has any concerns about children in her care. The childminder provides a safe and caring environment for children. She has developed strong links with the local settings the children also attend, which helps to complement and promote children's care and learning. The childminder updates her knowledge, evaluates her provision and values parents' views to help improve her practice. She works closely with parents to make changes tailored to children's needs. For example, the childminder took account of their views and purchased resources to promote children's early walking skills.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder gathers detailed information about children's abilities, likes and dislikes, and daily routines when they start attending. Overall, she uses this information with her ongoing observations to plan interesting activities to enthuse children. The childminder interacts skilfully with children to extend their vocabulary. For example, she reads stories in lively tones and uses props to help extend their language and communication skills. The childminder develops children's social skills well. She carefully considers what children will gain from the different groups and play sessions they attend and how this supports their overall development.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is a positive role model. She uses her knowledge of children to help her to sensitively and effectively manage children's behaviour. Children respond well to her calm and consistent approach. She uses praise effectively to boost children's confidence and self-esteem. The childminder teaches children about the importance of healthy lifestyles. They develop good hygiene routines and enjoy healthy snacks and nutritious cooked meals. The childminder undertakes regular, thorough checks on her home, resources and outings to eliminate risks. Children have opportunities to be physically active, for example, during daily visits to the local parks.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children happily explore their environment and engage in their chosen activities. They are developing very good levels of independence and they are able to follow healthy routines. Babies develop their movements well, as they crawl confidently, climb and learn to walk. Children learn about shapes, learn to count and develop good early mathematical skills. Children make good progress from their starting points and are well prepared for their future learning.
