It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not make the most of opportunities to enable children to become involved in exploring their own creative ideas. The childminder does not offer an equally rich and stimulating range of outdoor activities as those provided indoors, for those children who prefer to play outside.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder's interaction with the children and spoke with the childminder and children throughout the inspection. The inspector had a tour of the areas used for childminding. She also discussed the childminder's self-evaluation. She took account of the views of parents through their written feedback. The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's qualifications and training and evidence of the childminder's suitability and the suitability of all people living on the premises. The inspector looked at a selection of risk assessments and policy documents, including the safeguarding policy and procedures. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. She also looked at the childminder's planning documentation, children's learning and development files and their assessment records.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder completes regular safeguarding training to help keep her knowledge of child protection current. She is aware of the possible indicators of abuse and knows how to report concerns to the appropriate agencies. The qualified childminder keeps herself up to date with training and any new legislation to continue her professional development. The childminder maintains a safe and secure environment in her setting and carries out daily risk assessments. She ensures that children are supervised well. The childminder is very proactive within the local community and has established strong partnerships with local schools and other settings. She gathers opinions from parents and children to make further improvements.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder gains a good amount of information from parents about their children before they start in her care. She uses this, and information obtained from observations to assess and monitor children's progress effectively. The childminder skilfully interacts with children, getting down to their level and becoming actively involved in their play. She understands how to promote younger children's early language skills. For example, she sits and plays with children on the floor and responds positively to the sounds they make during play. Children enthusiastically become involved in singing sessions. They hit and shake instruments and show good control in their physical movements. The childminder encourages good eye contact and motivates children to copy her actions. This helps to develop their listening and attention skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder takes time to help children feel comfortable in her care. During settling-in sessions she builds meaningful relationships with children and parents. This helps children to settle with ease. The childminder is responsive to each child's individual care needs. For example, when younger children show signs of tiredness she provides a quiet and comfortable area for them to rest and sleep. At nappy changing times, the childminder is attentive to children and follows robust hygiene procedures. Children's well-being and good health are promoted well.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning during their time with the childminder and gain the skills that prepare them well for their future learning, including their eventual move on to school. Younger children are nurtured and well cared for. They explore their environment with interest and ease. Children are settled and reassured well, and enjoy good relationships. They giggle and laugh as they enjoy peek-a-boo games. Children's physical development is promoted effectively. They become confident and self-assured.
