This provision is good
The childminder builds effective partnerships with parents and carers. She communicates with them regularly about their children's experiences and progress. Parents are complimentary about the service she provides. Children are extremely settled in the childminder's care. They form secure attachments to the childminder and have good relationships with their peers. The childminder interacts well with children, she gets down on the floor to join in with their play. The childminder has a clear awareness of how to promote good health and hygiene. She provides children with healthy snacks and meals which they enjoy. The childminder encourages children to keep themselves safe. For example, children learn how to negotiate the steps into and out of the childminder's house.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally, the childminder overlooks opportunities during children's play and routines to extend and build on their mathematical learning. At times, the childminder does not make full use of regular opportunities to encourage children to do achievable things for themselves to extend their independence and self- help skills.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact of this on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector looked at a sample of documentation, including evidence of the suitability of adults living in the household. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector took into account the views of parents in written feedback and questionnaires provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of how to identify and report any concerns about the welfare of children in her care. She has broadened her understanding of wider safeguarding issues, such as protecting children from extreme views and behaviour. Thorough checks of the premises are undertaken each day to ensure children are cared for in a safe environment. The childminder supervises children well and teaches them to keep themselves safe. The childminder maintains an overview of children's progress that enables her to identify any gaps in their learning. She reflects on her practice and makes improvements to further her provision.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The qualified childminder observes children during activities and is aware of the progress they make. She keeps parents well informed about their children's day. The childminder promotes children's communication and language skills well and introduces new words during play. For example, when children are discussing that dinosaurs are no longer alive the childminder explains they are extinct. Children ask the childminder to read their favourite stories. They enthusiastically join in asking questions and recounting what is going to happen next. Children also practise their early literacy skills when they make marks with paints. Children enjoy activities that help to develop their imaginations and imitate real-life experiences. For example, they play happily with mobile phones and dolls and make up their own stories.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are well supported to become self-assured learners. They feel secure in the environment and display high levels of confidence and emotional well-being. For example, children proudly show off their skills as they ride on bicycles and jump and hop in the childminder's garden. Children are skilled at sharing and show a clear understanding of the need to respect others. For example, when getting into the childminder's car children wait patiently for their turn to take their seat. Children understand the childminder's high expectations of them. They happily help to tidy away toys. The childminder offers children frequent praise for their efforts and achievements. Children use very good manners and behave well at all times.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning and development. They show an eagerness to join in with activities and concentrate for long periods of time relative to their age. Children are confident when meeting new visitors to the childminder's home and happily invite the visitors to join in their play. Children effectively acquire the necessary skills in preparation for their next stages in learning, including nursery and school.
