This provision is good
The childminder has a good knowledge of children's abilities. She carefully monitors and assesses their progress, identifies next steps in learning and teaches them new skills. Children make good progress from their starting points. Children show a strong sense of security and belonging. They have close emotional relationships with the kind and supportive childminder. The childminder puts careful thought into the organisation of the indoor space. She creates an attractive and stimulating learning environment that children enjoy exploring. Children choose from a wide variety of challenging activities that reflects their interests and needs. For example, they sit quietly looking at books in a cosy reading den and increase their imaginary skills in a play kitchen. The childminder and co-childminder work well together. They have well-established systems that enable them to evaluate practice effectively and make improvements to

the provision. This includes increasing resources that help extend children's mathematical skills further.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently make the most of outdoor learning experiences to provide all children with the best opportunities to play and explore. Occasionally, the childminder does not make the most of opportunities to enhance children's understanding of how to stay safe.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children's activities indoors and in the outdoor area. The inspector sampled children's learning records and other relevant documentation. The inspector discussed childcare practice and children's learning with the childminder. The inspector looked at, and discussed, the self-evaluation forms and improvement plans with the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection procedures and her responsibility to report any concerns to the relevant agency. The childminder and her co-childminder successfully identify and address any emerging gaps in teaching and planning. The childminder continues to develop professionally and children benefit from her increasing knowledge and skills. For example, she completed a course that gave her a greater understanding of how children learn in different ways and how to take this into account when planning new experiences for them. The childminder works closely in partnership with parents to meet children's welfare and learning needs.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder interacts skilfully with children and extends their communication skills successfully. For example, she repeats words they say and encourages them to respond to her. The childminder asks questions that invite children to think about what they are doing and what might happen as they play. Children thoroughly enjoyed a painting activity and the childminder made good use of the opportunity to extend their learning. For example, she talked about shapes and used mathematical language that helped increase children's understanding. The childminder modelled play and encouraged them to have a go. Children responded readily and began making handprints on their paper.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder actively encourages healthy lifestyles. She provides nutritious and healthy snacks for children. The childminder makes sure the environment and resources stay clean and in good condition. She builds on children's awareness of good personal hygiene, for example, by providing opportunities for them to brush their teeth after meals. Children respond well to the childminder's gentle and sensitive reminders of what is acceptable behaviour. The childminder teaches children the importance of good manners and being kind to others. She builds their self-esteem, for instance, when she praises their achievements.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop well in the skills they need to be ready for the next stages in learning. They are confident and independent. Children initiate play and build on their skills. They enjoy exploring and investigating. Children confidently use different forms of technology and persevere when trying new skills. They play happily with their friends and share resources. Children communicate effectively with others.
