p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder understands how to keep children safe and knows the procedures to follow should she be concerned about a child's welfare. She provides a safe home environment with opportunities for indoor and outdoor learning.  Children form a secure relationship with the childminder and routines are well established. Children respond well to instructions and age-appropriate boundaries.  Children have lots of opportunities to experience different environments, such as parks, playgroups and playgrounds, as well as the home.  Children learn about different people, families and communities beyond their immediate experience through cultural celebrations, food and attending local activities and events.  Partnerships are effective. The childminder works well with parents and the nursery to ensure ongoing communication that helps to support a consistent approach to children's learning and development.

p.1

This provision is good

 Children behave well and the childminder is a positive role model. She calmly and successfully encourages children to share, be kind and to help each other.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not consistently provide a broad range of activities to support children's mark making and writing skills.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 provide more resources and opportunities for children to develop their mark making and writing skills.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector spoke to the childminder and children throughout the inspection.  The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder and assessed her understanding of children's learning and development.  The inspector reviewed documentation, including safeguarding procedures and evidence of the suitability of the childminder and persons living in the household.  The inspector observed the interactions between the childminder and children.  The inspector read through written feedback left by parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective and the childminder is aware of her responsibility to keep children safe. Children are cared for in a secure home environment where they can play safely indoors and outdoors. The childminder communicates effectively with parents and the nursery and information is shared regularly. She has a secure understanding of children's next steps and supports them to become confident independent learners. The childminder works well with the local authority to identify improvements to her setting and to find ways to address her own learning and development needs. She has taken action to address the recommendation from the previous inspection, and children can now access resources independently.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder knows the children well and she interacts positively with them. When the children play together, such as at the water tray, there are resources available to support all children's learning outcomes. Older children are encouraged to support younger children, and the childminder adapts her language appropriately depending on the age of each child. Children learn about differences and similarities and the childminder prepares a range of food from different cultures, including her own. They go on trips to meet other childminders, attend playgroups and play in local parks. The childminder makes accurate assessments of children's learning and next steps. Older children are well prepared for school and independently manage their own self-care needs.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder makes good use of a very large outside space which contains bicycles, tricycles, sand trays and other toys. A covered area is used when it is raining, and children are encouraged to be outside whenever possible. Children are encouraged to support each other and to share, which helps to promote their emotional well-being. Children develop positive relationships with each other, and older children include younger children in their play. The childminder is sensitive to children's needs and all children have formed secure attachments with her. Children are encouraged to be independent. For example, older children get themselves changed for school and put on their own shoes. The children know the daily routine and respond well to instruction at key times, such as when it is time to get ready for lunch or to leave the house.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are calm and behave well. They are active and engaged in activities, and they are confident to create their own games and explore their own ideas. The youngest children experience sensitive and attentive care. Children make positive choices and are listened to when they express themselves, which helps them to be independent learners. Children are learning essential skills, especially self-care routines, to ensure they are ready for school.
